Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts unveiled the Fulton County Health Equity Initiative. This initiative is targeting county residents who are 65 years and older from minority and low-income populations who may not use the internet, don't have transportation or are otherwise challenged to get access to COVID-19 vaccinations. The county is setting aside 2,500 vaccine doses for this program and also will use county health department staff to encourage eligible people to participate.

Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan visited a Forsyth County vaccination site to thank county staff, Northside Hospital Forsyth staff and volunteers for their efforts in administering COVID-19 vaccinations. As of Monday, 4,300 first vaccinations had been administered through county vaccination events. In addition to county and Northside employees, volunteers logged 1,040 hours assisting with various tasks including site management and registration.

Monroe County Commissioners visited the State Capitol this week for a press conference to announce the county's partnership with Central Georgia EMC, Southern Rivers Energy and Conexon that will bring high-speed internet to all EMC customers in Monroe County within the next year. The agreement, which is part of a statewide initiative, is believed to be the largest rural high-speed internet expansion project in the state.

Last fall, Thomas County opened its newest sporting center, the Ranges at Oakfield. This facility includes a 25-yard pistol range, a 100-yard rifle range, two skeet/trap fields and a 5-stand clay range. This county-operated range has four full-time and 12 part-time employees and hosts an average of two events per month.

While COVID-19 dominated much of 2020, Walker County made sure its community recognized the many other successes and accomplishments completed by county staff throughout the year. Watch their year-in-review video here.
