County Officials Celebrate UGA's National Championship

All smiles for University of Georgia football fans! Fans from across the state celebrated the Dawgs' National Championship win over Texas Christian University on Monday night. Several county officials traveled to California, including Pulaski County Sole Commissioner Jenna Mashburn and Union County Sole Commissioner and ACCG Past President Lamar Paris.

Walker County Recognized by PRSA Lookout Chapter for its Selfie Trail

Walker County Government, in partnership with the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, received recognition from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Lookout Chapter for their work on the #WalkerRocks Selfie Trail. The launch of the new tourism feature received a PRSA Crown Award for exemplary work in the fields of public relations, communication and marketing. The #WalkerRocks Selfie Trail features nearly a dozen prime locations with eye-catching backdrops ideal for capturing photos to share on social media. Each location features a custom “Walker Rocks” boulder that serves as a trailhead marker and has been strategically placed to help selfie takers get the best angle for the perfect shot to organically promote Walker County.

Douglas County Celebrates Grand Opening of Youth Innovation Center

Douglas County’s Board of Commissioners and Community Services Board celebrated the completion and grand opening of Douglas County’s first-ever state of the art Youth Innovation Center. The 5,000 square foot building, previously used as a bank, was renovated into a one-stop shop facility where technology, aesthetics, youth, and supportive services will be provided. Some of the core services provided at the center, will be youth psychiatric services, job coaching, and family and marriage counselling. In addition, supervised visitation, educational support services, GED prep and tutoring will be offered. The services will also assist the school system with alternative solutions to suspensions and expulsions, as well as assisting with Individual Education Plan Development with the Douglas County School System. 

Jackson County Elections Technology Voted Best in Class

Jackson County recently received the "Best in Class" award by the Georgia Secretary of State's Office. The county was recognized for its Elections & Voter Registration which was used as a beta tester for new elections technology.

Jasper County Commissioner Shelia Jones Supports Ending Hunger at the Wild Hog Supper Event

Jasper County Commissioner Shelia Jones recently attended the 60th Annual Wild Hog Supper in Atlanta. The event, co-hosted by Feeding Georgia and the Georgia Department of Agriculture, celebrates Georgia’s thriving agricultural community and its partnership with food banks. The event kicked off the 2023 legislative session and was heavily attended by state legislators and other leaders from across the state.

ACCG is now accepting nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards & Recognition Program and the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards. Both award programs provide an opportunity to showcase the talented leaders and innovative programs within your county. Award recipients will be honored at the 2023 ACCG Annual Conference in Savannah/Chatham County this April.
