Cherokee County Honors Local Resident for Success on TV Show

The Cherokee County Board presented local resident and “The Voice” Season 22 winner Bryce Leatherwood with a proclamation honoring not only his success but the way he represented Cherokee County and the state of Georgia on a national stage. The proclamation proclaimed Jan. 24, 2023 Bryce Leatherwood Day in Cherokee County.

Macon-Bibb County Celebrates Groundbreaking on Airport Runway Extension

County leaders and other stakeholders were all smiles as they celebrated the groundbreaking of a long-awaited airport extension project. The Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) is extending a runway to allow for growth, improved safety and to potentially attract commercial airline services. This project has been in discussion for four decades and after 10 years of working behind the scenes to begin the transformation, the vision is finally becoming a reality. The extension should be completed in late 2024 or early 2025. 

Fulton County Launches Digital Ambassadors Program

Fulton County partnered with Comcast and Goodwill of North Georgia to create the Fulton County Digital Ambassadors Program. The program will create strategic access points throughout the county for residents to learn and sign up for free broadband access through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

ACCG Leadership Represents Georgia Counties During the 2023 GMA Cities United Summit

ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills and ACCG President and Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes connected with city officials during the 2023 Cities United Summit. The summit, hosted by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), unites Georgia city officials every January to focus on important municipal issues before the Georgia General Assembly.

Henry County Welcomes New Public Safety Personnel

Henry County welcomed fresh, new faces to the public safety team! Henry County Manager Cheri Hobson-Matthews, Human Resources Director Harold Cooper and Human Resources Generalist II/Recruiter Mishara Murrell-Sharp personally welcomed the new fire firefighters and 911 call takers during their orientation.

Help ACCG Honor Local Leaders and Innovative County Programs in Your Community by Submitting Nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards

ACCG is now accepting nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards & Recognition Program and the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards. Both award programs provide an opportunity to showcase the talented leaders and innovative programs within your county. Award recipients will be honored at the 2023 ACCG Annual Conference in Savannah/Chatham County this April.


The deadline for the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards is quickly approaching! Nominations must be submitted by February 17.
