Local Artist Creates Mural at Radium Spring Lift Station in Dougherty County
Dougherty County local artist Chris Johnson recently completed a beautiful mural on the Radium Springs Lift Station. Johnson, whose family moved to the area when he was 11, experiencied not only the natural beauty of the area but also the devastation from the Flood of 1994 and the fire of 2000, County leaders asked for a natural theme, and Johnson was able to sketch the mural in less than two weeks. Johnson is a Professor of Art at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia.
County Officials Talking about TSPLOT
Bryan County Chairman Carter Infinger (left) and Bulloch County Manager Tom Couch (right) joined ACCG Associate Legislative Director Kathleen Bowen to participate in a TSPLOST panel at the Georgia Chamber's Future of Freight & Logistics event held on the campus of Georgia Southern University this week.
Wayne County Fire Rescue Receives Donation of Canned Drinking Water
Wayne County Fire Rescue recently received a donation of 196 cases of canned emergency drinking water to help provide critical hydration to first responders during wildfires from Anheuser-Busch, Southern Crown Partners. In 2021, Wayne County Fire Rescue volunteer firefighters responded to 158 calls for grass/wild fires. This year, they have already responded to 127 incidents.
Monroe County Holds Push In Ceremony for New Fire Trucks
The Monroe County Commission made an unprecendented decision in October to purchase (at one time) 12 brand new HME Ahrens-Fox fire engines. Although the cost was just over $6 million, they believed they would spend less to buy them in bulk. The trucks will be rotated around the county's 13 fire stations to ensure they won't need to be replaced at the same time. Five of the trucks are already in service.
Catoosa County Board of Commissioners
Approves Addition of SROs to Elementary Schools
The Catoosa County Board of Commissioners approved a measure to enhance safety in Catoosa County Public Schools. An amendment to the 2022 budget approved Sheriff Gary Sisk and the School Board's request for seven additional resouorce officers. In addition to SROs already at all county middle and high schools, this amendment will provide an SRO at all elementary schools, which up until now have shared officers.
Jasper County Celebrates
Inaugural Juneteenth Event
Jasper County Commissioner Sheila Jones planned a big day of unity to mark Jasper County's first annual Juneteenth Celebration. The festivities included a parade followed by a festival at Sands Park, one of the oldest parks in the county.
