Baldwin County Awarded $4.9M in RAISE Grant Funds for Neighborhood Improvements


U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff recently awarded $4.9 million in RAISE Grant funds to Baldwin County for the Oconee Heights Streetscape and Safety Improvements Project. The additional funding will be utilized to improve community connectivity by creating pedestrian pathways, completing sidewalk connections and installing solar powered lighting fixtures throughout the Oconee Heights Neighborhood.

Henry County Police Department ACE Unit Hosts Banquet


The Henry County Police Department ACE Unit recently hosted a banquet for their Explores program. The Explores program introduces teenage students to law enforcement through various activities throughout their summer break. At the banquet, students received various awards for their dedication and efforts during the program.

Walker County Announces New Inclusive Playground


Walker County recently announced a new inclusive playground coming to the Walker County Civic Center. The playground will include a poured in place rubberized service and ramps with barriers to make it accessible to children of all abilities. Groundbreaking for the new playground will be held in early September.

Newton County Breaks Ground on New Spring Hill Park


Newton County recently broke ground on the new Spring Hill Park. The new park will be located in a Newton community that currently does not have a county park or green space. The park, funded by the 2017 SPLOST, will feature green space, a playground, a pavilion and community center. The park is expected to be completed by summer of 2024.

State Representative Brad Thomas Receives

2023 ACCG Legislative Service Award


ACCG Deputy Director of Governmental Affairs Todd Edwards presented a 2023 Legislative Service Award to Rep. Brad Thomas during the recent Cherokee County Commission meeting. Thomas was honored for his sponsorship of House Bill 374, which addressed a long-standing ACCG policy by allowing aggrieved property owners to deannex from a city without the city having unilateral veto authority over the deannexation.

ACCG Staff and Georgia County Commissioners Attend NACo Annual Conference


ACCG Staff and Georgia County Commissioners are attending the NACo Annual Conference in Travis County, Texas this week. County officials are attending engaging in sessions and learning from others across the nation on how to improve their counties.
