Testifying on Behalf of Counties at Legislative Subcommittee Meeting
Legislative work continues at the State Capitol - even during the summer. This week, ACCG staff, county officials and others testified at the Local Service Delivery Special Subcommittee meeting of the Governmental Affairs Committee. County officials who testified (pictured left) included Forsyth County Manager Kevin Tanner, Worth County Administrator Carl Rowland and Georgetown-Quitman County Chairman Carvel Lewis. ACCG Intern Yuruomeng "W" Wang (pictured right) testified on county salary information, explaining how county elected officials' salaries are calculated and the impact of state employee pay raises and constitutional officer pay raises. ACCG Deputy Legislative Director Todd Edwards and County Consulting Manager Bill Twomey also participated in the meeting.

Cherokee County E 9-1-1 Center Recognized by State Legislator
Cherokee County's E 9-1-1 Center recently was recognized for the role it plays in serving the county. State Representative Charlice Byrd presented a resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives to Director Shane Bonebrake and the Center staff. The resolution highlighted the Center's national accrediation (one of only 52 in the country).
Cobb County Breaks Ground on Memorial Park
Cobb County commissioners recently took part in a groundbreaking for Memorial Park. The Cobb Veterans Memorial Foundation hosted the ceremony for the veterans memorial following many years of planning and fundraising. The park will honor the United States Armed Forces and their families and feature a 142-foot "Star Tower" monument and honor walls listing the names of veterans.
New VA Outpatient Center
Opens in Pike County
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs opened the doors to a new multi-million Veterans Affairs Clinic in Pike County this week. This facility will provide healthcare for veterans in the surrounding area.
New State Court Judge
Appointed in Paulding County
Governor Brian Kemp recently appointed Angela Reedy O'Conor as the first State Court Judge in Paulding County. The recent creation of a State Court allows Paulding County to provide a more efficient way of handling the dispositions of all misdemeanors and traffic citations, which in turn, will allow for the more effective handling of the felony matters before the Superior Court. Prior to this appointment, Judge O'Conor was appointed by the Director of the Georgia Public Defenders Council as the Paulding Circuit Public Defender and served in that capacity since 2017.
Lowndes County Recognizes Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week
Lowndes County honored its Probation employees during Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week. The American Probation and Parole Association annually marks the third full week of July to recognize individuals who work in this field. Lowndes County Probation is responsible for all defendants sentenced in Lowndes County State Court and makes sure those individuals comply with all court-ordered conditions.
