Gwinnett Recognized as a Purple Heart County
As a sign of Gwinnett County's deep respect and admiration for those men and women wounded or killed in defense of our country, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation designating the community as a Purple Heart County. The proclamation was presented to Lou Zayas, commander of Chapter 465 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, along with veterans with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteers from the Gwinnett County Veterans Memorial Museum.
ACCG Employee Safety Grant Used for Putnam County Fire & EMS Employees
Putnam County was recently awarded an ACCG Employee Safety Grant. The grant was used to purchase Stat Packs Advanced Fluorescent Vests for the Putnam County Fire Department and EMS staff.
Lowndes County and Moody AFB Renew 10-Year IGSA
Lowndes County and Moody Air Force Base (AFB) have renewed an Intergovernmental Service Support Agreement (IGSA) for the county to provide water treatment to the installation. Moody AFB is the first installation in the history of the Air Force to renew a 10-year IGSA. The current agreement, which spanned 5 years, saved the base over $200,000. The new 10-year IGSA is projected to save over $2 million.
Forsyth County Receives National Recognition for Road Project
Forsyth County received a project of Excellence Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers for the SR 369 widening and interchange project design in the Urban Transportation category. Forsyth County, GDOT and American Engineers, Inc., worked together to create the design with the goal of improving the roadway infrastructure of northern Forsyth County.
Douglas County Celebrates Opening of Nature Preserve Trailhead
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and Parks and Recreation Department recently celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Clinton Nature Preserve Trailhead. This project was funded by a federal Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Clinton Johnson Named to DCA Board
Congratulations to Dougherty County Commissioner and ACCG Board member Clinton Johnson who has been named by Governor Brian Kemp to serve on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). DCA oversees issues including comprehensive planning, safe and affordable housing, downtown development, community infrastructure and economic development finance.

About Jeff:  Jeff is a New England transplant who moved here as a high school teacher and coach 30 years ago, and has never thought about living anywhere else! He's an avid golfer, who loves deer hunting and umpiring high school baseball (23 years and counting!). Jeff and his wife Tina, of 24 years, have a son Reilly (19) who is entering his 2nd year at UGA and 2 dogs, Ozzie and Lola.
