Columbus-Muscogee County Unveils 2023 Clothes Story Exhibition


The Juneteenth Jubilee Commission (JCC), chaired by Columbus-Muscogee County Councilor and ACCG Board Member Toyia Tucker, debuted the 2023 Clothes Story Exhibition which features the Juanita Carson Booker Legacy of Service Gallery honoring women trailblazers in Columbus, Georgia. The exhibition is sponsored by the Chattahoochee Valley Library and will run through June 30.

Lowndes County Hosts Combined Training for Public Safety Personnel


As part of the required quarterly training for all law enforcement officers within the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, fire personnel provided Sherriff's Deputies with important information on what to do if a firefighter is incapacitated. The deputies were familiarized with the Fire Department’s emergency procedures in the event of a firefighter injury.

City and County Officials Sit Down with U.S. Representative Mike Collins


ACCG and GMA hosted a roundtable discussion with Congressman Mike Collins for city and county officials. Attendees discussed topics ranging from infrastructure projects, infrastructure needs, and legislation affecting counties' water and sewer systems. Congressman Collins also shared his experience and observations as a freshman congressman and provided an update on national infrastructure legislation.

Chattooga County Awards Farm Grant to Local Business


Chattooga County recently awarded their Local Small Business / Farm Grant to two local farms and two local businesses. 

The purpose of the grant is to assist local small businesses and farms with recovering from the pandemic, as well as to stimulate investment and business expansion. 

Liberty County Recognizes Youth for Wins in the GRPA State Track and Field Meet


The Liberty County Board of Commissioners recognized the local youth who competed and won in the Georgia Recreation & Park Association (GRPA) State Track and Field Meet held in May in Augusta-Richmond County. Students competed in and won events ranging from standing long jump to softball throw. 

Floyd County School Resource Officers Attend School GASROE Conference


Floyd County School Resource Officers attended the Georgia Association of School Resource Officers and Educators (GASROE) Conference at the University of Georgia in Athens-Clarke County. While at the conference, Floyd County officials attended training classes that will benefit them as they work to protect and serve their local students and school staff. Some of the classes attended included Addressing Bullying in Schools, Youth Fire Starters, School Bus Strategies, Prevention of Violence in Schools and more.

Calhoun County Receives Recognition for Its Support of Local FFA Chapter


The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners were presented with an appreciation plaque from the Calhoun County Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter for their support of the FFA and Calhoun County Market Hog Show.

ACCG Immediate Past President Melissa Hughes Participates in South Georgia Women's Leadership Initiative


ACCG Immediate Past President and Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes recently attended the official launch of the South Georgia Women's Leadership Initiative. Accompanied by other women leaders in the region, Commissioner Hughes, represented elected officials during the event.
