Major Jeff Jones of the Floyd County Police Department Visits Israel Public Safety Leadership Training


Jones was part of a 20-member delegation that partnered with the Israel Police for the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange’s (GILEE) 30th annual peer-to-peer executive training program. While in Israel, they were shown best practices and the latest technologies in policing and public safety. They learned more about strategies to successfully lead law enforcement programs and use community policing to build safer neighborhoods for minority communities in partnership with all community stakeholders. 

ACCG First Vice President Attends NACO Leadership Institute


Last week, Toombs County Chairman and ACCG First Vice President David Sikes participated in NACo’s County Leadership Institute in Washington, DC. The County Leadership Institute is designed to address the unique challenges faced in public service and offers selected officials a platform to create positive, sustained change in their communities.

Chatham County Commissioner Helen Stone Meets with Baldwin County GCIP Intern


Chatham County Commissioner Helen Stone who serves on the ACCG Civic Affairs Foundation Board of Directors, met Baldwin County GCIP Intern Tanner Adams this week while attending the Mental Health Committee Meeting. Tanner is a Georgia College student interning with the Baldwin County GIS Department. 

Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services Holds Graduation for Class Number 47.


The Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services held a graduation ceremony for Class Number 47 at recent Fayette County Board of Commissioners' public meeting. An audience full of family and friends was present to celebrate the occasion. The graduation and certification as NPQ Firefighter II and Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians are a culmination of a rigorous eight month Fire and EMS training program.

ACCG Standing Committee on Mental Health & Substance Abuse Committee Holds First Meeting


The ACCG Standing Committee on Mental Health & Substance Abuse recently held its first meeting. Comprised of county officials from across the state, the goal of the Committee is to establish a clearinghouse for all 159 Georgia counties looking to improve or create mental health resources in their communities.

Liberty County Hosts Summer Lunch Program for Children


Liberty County received a grant from Bright from the Start to provide lunches for children out of school for the summer. Bag lunches will be distributed at 14 locations in the County and given out by part-time county staff. The program aims to serve approximately 500 children per day over a 28-day period, amounting to 14,000 meals served. Liberty County also provides an additional $60,000 from general fund revenue to supplement the program. According to Joseph Mosley, Assistant County Administrator, “This county-sponsored program is a bridge for students who depend on the school system for meals.”  

Macon-Bibb County Mayor Presents Juneteenth Proclamation


Recently Mayor Lester Miller presented a Juneteenth proclamation to the Macon Black Culture, Kwanzaa Cultural Access Center, Inc., Barbers on Duty, Inc., and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission. Mayor Miller shared the proclamation on social channels along with encouraging citizens to attend the Juneteenth parade.
