Columbus-Muscogee Celebrates Unity Week and Juneteeth Jubilee
Columbus-Muscogee City Councilwoman (and ACCG Board Member) Toyia Tucker and Civic Center Director Rob Landers hosted an Inaugural Unity Week and Juneteenth Jubilee in Columbus. The eight-day event ended with a Juneteenth Historic Sites Family Bike Tour along the Black Heritage Trail, a National Recreation Trail connecting 30 African American heritage points of interest.
MVP Grants Announced in Macon-Bibb County to Address Violence Prevention
Macon-Bibb County is working with the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and other local leaders to prevent violent crime. More than $800,000 in funding for the first round of Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) grants was announced this weekfor 25 nonprofit and faith-based organizations. In 2021, Mayor Lester Miller invited community leaders to participate in the Macon Violence Prevention Program, and a strategic plan emphasizing youth outreach was developed.
Houston County Cuts Ribbon
on New Airport Terminal
The Perry-Houston County Airport Authority cut the ribbon on a new terminal and corporate building this week. The new terminal will better serve the needs of the community and be named in honor of Houston County Chairman Tommy Stalnaker.
Lumpkin County Officials Participate in Groundbreaking for New NGMC Facility
Lumpkin County officials participated in a groundbreaking ceremony held by Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) for a new facility in the county. The16,000-square foot addition to NGMC's presence in the county is scheduled to open in April 2024 and will include 16 inpatient rooms, 10 state-of-the art treatment rooms, four dedicated observation rooms, 3 operating rooms, one procedural suite to support orthopedics, sports medicine and other services, and more.
Cobb County Senior Services Celebrates 50 Years
Cobb County Senior Services is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. As part of the fun, the department hosted a Department Dunk fundraiser, giving employees the chance to dunk coworkers, upper management and elected officials alike!
