World Sickle Cell Awareness Day with Proclamation

The Clayton County Board of Commissioners recently signed a proclamation recognizing World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. This international day of awareness is observed to increase public knowledge and understanding of the disease.

ACCG Legislative Service Award

ACCG Deputy Legislative Director Todd Edwards traveled to Habersham County this week to present 10th District State Representative Victor Anderson with an ACCG Legislative Service Award. Anderson received the award for his work on House Bill 134 (local cybersecurity plans) and House Resolution 222 (review process of annexation and cityhood movements).

Lumpkin County Manager Stan Kelley Recognized for Contributions

Lumpkin County Manager Stan Kelley is a member of an elite brotherhood of Army Rangers and is also a member of the U.S. Mountain Ranger Association. This association works to prevent veteran suicide, supports the families of rangers at Camp Merrill, offers two scholarships to high school students and more. They recently recognized Kelley for his service to the county and the ranger community.

Spalding County Manager William Wilson Honored by County and ICMA

Spalding County Manager William Wilson, Jr. is retiring on June 30, 2021 after 35 years of service. Wilson was recently presented with a proclamation from the Spalding County Board of Commissioners in appreciation for his contributions and commitment to the county. The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) also recently recognized Wilson with a lifetime membership in recognition of his service. Congratulations William!

Mitchell County Commission Recognizes Local Athletes

The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners recently recognized Westwood Schools graduate Phen Rubendall and his doubles tennis partner Brooks Tucker for winning the GISA doubles state championship title two years in a row - including an undefeated 2020-2021 season.

Baconton Community Charter School's rising senior Greg Reese also received a plaque in recognition of winning first place in the GHSA 2020-2021 1A State Championship for the 200-meter dash with a recorded time of 22.59.

About Andre’: Andre’ retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years of service. He started working in the insurance industry in 1989 with the FDIC handling bank claims. He enjoys traveling, meeting people and learning new cultures. He plans to retire next year and just enjoy life! He and his wife have five children and eleven grandchildren. He says he is blessed each and every day.
