The Douglas County Board of Commissioners recently purchased decontamination sanitized electrostatic foggers for all ten fire stations in order to sanitize equipment and facilities and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Previously, firefighters from across the county had to travel to headquarters to decontaminate their equipment, reducing emergency response time and adding to fuel costs

Ben Hill County Vice-Chairman Hope Harmon assisted with the FLEX (Fitzgerald Leadership and Entrepreneur Experience) program, a collaboration involving the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Fitzgerald High School College and Career Academy and the Fitzgerald and Ben Hill Development Authority. The program allows students to interact with business owners, learn to give professional presentations, develop business plans and compete for funding to pursue their business venture. No Limit Outdoor (pictured with Vice-Chairman Harmon) took the top prize this year.

Troup County has received a $1.8 million Conserve Georgia Grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to construct the Oakfuskee Conservation Center at West Point Lake (rendering pictured). The facility will feature educational and recreational opportunities. The grant will be combined with $3 million in SPLOST funding and a $1.5 million gift from the Callaway Foundation.

Liberty County recently dedicated a new fire station designed to house firefighters 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This addition will allow fire services to upgrade service delivery and response time for the eastern sector of the county and will lower the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating, translating into substantial savings for home and property owners.

The Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for 2022 - 2028 was approved by Macon County votes in a special election held on March 16, 2021, by a 92% "Yes" vote. Projections are that approximately $7.9 million will be raised over the six-year period to fund a variety of projects in the county and its four cities.
