Local Olympic Hero
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the City of Douglasville held a celebration to honor 5-time U.S. Olympic medalist Elana Meyers-Taylor. Meyers-Taylor made a permanent mark on winter sports with her wins in Beijing this year, becoming the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympic history.
Alma-Bacon EMA Members Help to Save Dog after Family Home is Lost to Fire
Upon responding to a recent house fire, Alma-Bacon EMA members learned that the family's dog, Jenna, was still inside. While unfortunately the house could not be saved, these local heros were able to find Jenna. After working on her for about 30 minutes, she was able to recover from the exposure - proof that these first responders really are man's best friend!
Brooks County Dedicates New Agricultural Services Building
Brooks County dedicated a a new agricultural services facility this week that will house offices for USDA, UGA Extenstion and NRCS. The building includes rentable meeting space with a full commercial kitchen.
Gwinnett County Opens
New Passport Acceptance Office
Gwinnett County Clerk of Court Tiana Garner has announced the opening of a new passport acceptance office. Passport services are now available inside the lobby of the Office of the Clerk of Court, located within the Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Center.
Quite a Fish Tale from Floyd County
Rachael Harrison of Adairsville, Georgia recently caught a new state record longnose gar from the Coosa River in Floyd County. The fish weighed 31 pounds, 2 ounces and replaces a record last set in 2013.
