Jackson County Holds Groundbreaking for New Administration Building


Jackson County officials hosted a groundbreaking to start construction on a new administration building. The current building was built in 1932 and the county has outgrown the space and the maintenance of the facility. The new 39,000 square foot building will be constructed along Jackson Parkway across from the courthouse. The building is scheduled for completion in August 2024.  

Major Jones Receives Award on Behalf of Floyd County Police Department


Major Jeff Jones accepted an award on behalf of the Floyd County Police Department for its effort in assisting an individual visiting Floyd County who was experiencing a serious mental crisis. Major Jones said that investigators and patrol units from Floyd County Police and Floyd County Animal Control worked together to make sure that the individual was able to get the care that they needed and that their child, dog, and property were kept safe and cared for until other family members were able to arrive from out of state. The award was given from the Georgia affiliates of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Former University of Alabama Football Player and Henry County Native Awarded Proclamation from Henry County Board of Commissioners


Commission Chair Carlotta Harrell presented former University of Alabama football standout Will Anderson Jr. with a proclamation in recognition of his accomplishments on behalf of the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Anderson, a Henry County native and graduate of Dutchtown High School was chosen third overall in the 2023 NFL Draft last month after the Houston Texans traded up to select him, making him the first defensive player taken in the entire draft. Anderson was joined by his family to receive the honor.

Local Seniors to Agency and Aging Annual Wellness Fair

Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Parks and Recreation Director Mordie Askew, along with Family Connections Coordinator Christina Young, had the pleasure of taking a lovely group of ladies to the River Valley Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging annual Wellness Fair. At the Wellness Fair, the group learned about the importance of health screenings, medical transportation, Medicare/Medicaid, scams targeting seniors, and many other knowledgeable information pertaining to Seniors.

ACCG Board of Managers Represents Georgia at NACo Board of Directors Meeting in Utah



ACCG NACo Representatives recently attended the NACo 2023 Western Interstate Region (WIR) Conference. The conference is intended to bring together county officials from across the nation to focus on the pressing issues facing local counties through networking with federal, state, and regional policymakers and participating in educational sessions. Georgia county commissioners Helen Stone, Larry Johnson, and Cindy Mills attended on behalf of ACCG as NACo Representatives at the NACo Board of Directors meeting and to participate in discussions on behalf of Georgia.

Forsyth's Mary Alice Park Gets Improvements to Beach Front Ahead of Opening Day


Mary Alice Park recently got some much needed repairs ahead of opening day weekend. The swimming areas opening day on May 26 will allow local residents to enjoy family time at the beach front while accessing the new improvements. The repairs to the park included new signage, removing physical hazards, adding new beach sand, installing self-pay parking kiosks, and refreshing the bathroom facilities.
