Helping Firefighters Learn about Cancer Prevention and Resources

Georgia State Director for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network Michele Ice, GMA Risk Management Services Director Stan Deese and ACCG Deputy Director of Insurance Ashley Abercrombie recently presented information related to firefighter cancer as part of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center's Regional Fire Academy Day Program. Michele taught about the risks of cancer and ways to prevent it, while Ashley and Stan provided information about the Georgia Firefighters' Cancer Benefit Program, which provides certain cancer insurance benefits to firefighters who contract cancer.

Fulton County Launches COVID-19 Library Vaccination Program

Fulton County Manager Dick Anderson joined Vice Chairman Natalie Hall and others at Adams Park Library to highlight the county's new library vaccination program. Fulton County is now offering on-site COVID-19 vaccinations at 20 targeted libraries to help close the health equity gap.

Planning for Broadband

in Southwest Georgia

ACCG County Consulting representatives Bill Twomey and Mary Beth Brownlee helped to facilitate a series of broadband planning meetings within the Sumter EMC service area, which includes Chattahoochee, Dougherty, Lee, Marion, Randolph, Quitman, Schley, Sumter, Terrell and Webster counties. The meetings were held in cooperation with GMA, the Georgia Department of Community Affiairs Georgia Broadband Deployment Initiative, Sumter EMC and Windstream..

Decatur County Prepares Students for EMS Career

Decatur County Fire and Rescue is celebrating the first group of students to complete its "street to Nationally Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician" program. This free, eight month program was designed to offer students the ability to earn an AEMT certification when college might not be an option. These students started with no previous medical and are now prepared to start their EMS career.

Alan Ours Named Lumpkin County Manager

Congratulations to Alan Ours, who has been named Lumpkin County Manager following the retirement of longtime manager Stan Kelley. Ours has many years of experience as a county manager, having most recently served for ten years as the Glynn County Manager. He will start in his new role on August 2. About Beth: Beth joined ACCG after working in communications for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for more than 15 years. She grew up in the northeast and moved to Athens-Clarke County when she was in high school. She is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia and big college football fan. She lives in Walton County with her daughters Hannah (a rising UGA sophomore) and Megan (a rising high school junior). When she's not doing something with the girls, you can find her expanding her garden, curled up with a good book or walking her dogs - Dooley and Finley (who regularly make appearances during Zoom meetings).
