A Big Week for Bryan County

Bryan County Chairman Carter Infinger and other local leaders spent a day at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield this week getting to know the command staff and learning more about their operations. The tour included a visit to the Warriors Walk, where a tree has been planted to honor the 469 fallen soldiers from Fort Stewart.

As Georgians across the state enjoy Memorial Day weekend, it is important to remember those in the military who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Earlier in the week, Governor Brian Kemp announced the authorization to purchase a 2,284-acre economic development site in partnership between the State of Georgia and the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority. The purchase of the Bryan County Mega-Site is the largest in state history.

Cherokee County Manager Jerry Cooper Receives ACCG Leadership Award

ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills presented Cherokee County Manager Jerry Cooper with the Jerry R. Griffin Excellence in Public Service Award as part of his retirement ceremony this week. This award, named for former ACCG Executive Director Jerry Griffin and selected annually by a committee of the ACCG Board of Managers, recognizes an individual who has worked toward achieving a lasting positive impact on his or her community. Cooper has served as Cherokee County Manager for 20 years.

Franklin County Names Recreation Center in Memory of Beloved Referee

Franklin County recently held a public ceremony renaming its recreation center in honor of the late Mr. Michael Mayfield, Sr. Mr. Mayfield was a longtime friend and referee to many of Franklin County's youth who grew up playing sports at the recreation department. His love for the community will be well remembered and well known by all who visit this facility.

Rockdale County Focuses

on Cleanups and Recycling in May

Rockdale County held two big events in May to help clean up its community. Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr. lead a community cleanup early in the month that collected more than 240 bags of trash. Later in the month, the county held a paper shredding and e-recycling event to allow county residents to recycle sensitive paper products and dispose of electronics.

Forsyth County Manager Kevin Tanner

Recognized by State Transportation Board

During their May meeting, the Georgia State Transportation Board recognized Forsyth County Manager Kevin Tanner with a resolution for his time served as a state representative and his commitment to advancing transportation and transit throughout the state.
