Houston County Kicks Off

Bicentennial Anniversary

Houston County kicked off recognition of its bicentennial anniversary this week with an event on the steps of the Houston County Courthouse. Speakers on the program included (front row) Shirley Hills Elementary School Principal Dr. Traci Jackson, former Georgia Governor and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, former state legislator Larry Walker, former Senator Sam Nunn, Colonel Rosalie Duarte (Robins Air Force Base) and (back row) Sheriff Cullen Talton and Commissioner Chairman Tommy Stalnaker. Paulding County Dedicates

Richland Creek Reservoir

The Paulding County Board of Commissioners recently dedicated the new Richland Creek Reservoir. With Chairman David Carmichael serving as master of ceremonies, past and present elected and appointed officials gathered to celebrate the reservoir and the 20 years of planning, permitting and construction to implement this project. The reservoir is an off-stream, 305-acre reservoir holding over 3 billion gallons of water pumped from the Etowah River. An 18 million gallon water treatment plant will produce drinking water serving Paulding County citizens and businesses.

Lowndes County Awards Certificate of Appreciation to 11-Year-Old Citizen

Lowndes County Utilities knew they were experiencing low water pressure in a specific area of the community last week but they could not detect the leak or problem after several hours of searching. Later that afternoon, 11-year-old Alex Watts discovered the water main break and told his mother who notified the county so that he was able to show them where the water was running into the storm drain. Lowndes County Utilities honored Alex with a Certificate of Appreciation, a Lowndes County Utilities t-shirt and gift cards to one of his favorite restaurants - Chick-fil-a.

Douglas County Thanks Local ICU Staff for their Fight Against COVID

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners and staff recognized front line workers at Wellstar Douglas Hospital for their hard work, sacrifice and resilience in the battle against COVID-19. Former Wellstar Douglas COVID patients delivered heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff for helping save their lives, including retired Douglas County Sheriff's Captain Ross Brown who recently returned home after a 7-month long battle with COVID and Douglas County Communications Director Rick Martin, who helped coordinate the event.

Cherokee County Clean Up Collects 3,0000 Pounds of Trash

Volunteers from the Keep Cherokee Beautiful program turned out in force to clean up trash on Bells Ferry Road. They collected 150 bags of trash weighing in at roughly 3,000 pounds. Among those that participated in the clean up were Cherokee County Commissioner Benny Carter (center) and State Representative Charlice Byrd (center right).

About Joe: Joe enjoys problem solving. One of his primary responsibilities at ACCG is direct assistance to county attorneys and helping them solve problems by listening carefully to the issue(s) and then walking them through an analysis including legal, political, and practical ramifications and then hopefully arriving at a solution. Joe is an avid collector of wine, books, and art. He has been married for 45 years and has two grown children and one grandchild. He and his wife enjoy hosting their grandson every summer and giving his parents a much needed break.
