Lowndes County Fire Rescue Educates Community During Fire Prevention Month

During Fire Prevention Month, Lowndes County Fire Rescue brought fire safety education to more than 3,000 students across the county. The campaign “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!™” highlighted the importance of maintaining working smoke alarms at home. Students also enjoyed touring the fire truck, watching the ladder in action, and meeting Sparky the Fire Dog.

Rockdale County Recognizes Retiring Judge for Nearly Five Decades of Service



The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners honored Judge Robert Mumford for his nearly 50 years of dedicated service, including his role in establishing the Rockdale County Adult Drug Court Program and holding various legal and community positions. The board has proclaimed Nov. 22, 2024, as a day to honor him.

Telfair County Commissioner Appointed to NACo Task Force


Telfair County Vice Chair Dakkia Bradshaw was recently appointed to NACo's Intergovernmental Disaster Reform Task Force. Dakkia was nominated by ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills and is currently the only Georgia county official on the Task Force. Click here to learn more.

Floyd County Police Department Raises Funds for Local NAMI Chapter


The Floyd County Police Department recently held its annual charity golf tournament. Through the tournament, the police department raised more than $8,300 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) branch in Rome, GA.

Jackson County Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Administration Building

Jackson County celebrated the opening of the new county administration building which now houses several county departments including the tax commissioner (tag), human resources, and finance department along with the board of commissioners and county manager. The building also features a community room which was dedicated to County Manager Kevin Poe in honor of his years of commitment to public service.

Leadership Glynn Connects with Public Safety and Local Leaders


The current Leadership Glynn class took part in Public Safety and Government Day, where attendees toured the Glynn County Public Safety complex. They engaged in discussions with law enforcement, fire rescue representatives, and local county and city leaders.

Henry County Hosts 2024 USTA National Wheelchair Championship Tournament


More than 60 of the best wheelchair tennis athletes from across the nation competed in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) America Wheelchair Tennis Championships held at Richard Craig Park in Henry County. This marks the second consecutive year the event has been held at this venue, thanks to the efforts of Henry County Parks and Recreation.

GCIP Intern Gets Innovative with County Road Data


Abby Crosby, a business administration student at the University of Georgia, interned with Camden County's Planning and Development Department where she assessed and updated the county road inventory. Her tasks included collecting road data, identifying missing files, converting data into a visual dashboard, and updating GIS records.

ACCG Wraps Up Final Round of District Meetings

ACCG staff traveled to various counties around the state to wrap up the final round of District Meetings. District Meetings presented county officials and staff with an opportunity to discuss hot topics such as the SECURE Act 2.0 (which adds new requirements for government retirement plans) and House Bill 581 (Property Reform Tax Bill) as well as ask ACCG staff questions. Special thank you to each of the 12 counties that hosted a meeting and the attendees who joined us.

The District 1 meeting took place at the Emery Center in Whitfield County.

District 7 meeting was held at The Pringle Building in Washington County.

ACCG and Georgia Trend are once again hosting the Georgia County Excellence Awards. Counties that have taken innovative and cost-effective approaches to solving local issues with local programs and initiatives are encouraged to apply.
