As COVID-19 cases rise across the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) are encouraging people to celebrate Thanksgiving safely by limiting gathering sizes and practicing other mitigation measures to reduce the chances of spreading the virus. Atlanta's 11 Alive news reached out to ACCG this week to gain insight into the cost of the statewide election audit to counties. ACCG Deputy Legislative Director Todd Edwards provided perspective from some of the metro Atlanta counties and credited all county elections staff for their efforts this year. The Cherokee Parks and Recreation Agency will make some big improvements to Kenney Askew Memorial Park and the Richard Mauldin Sports Complex thanks to the Pilgrim's Hometown Strong Initiative. The county will match the grant money with SPLOST funds. Improvements include an added walking track, picnic pavilion, playground, skate park and overflow parking lot. Upgrades are also slated for the t-ball field, pickleball courts and landscaping. Learn more here.

Cobb County Commissioners JoAnn Birrell and Bob Ott recently helped to unveil the new sign at the Tim D. Lee Senior Center with his family. Chairman Lee, who passed away in October 2019, was a passionate advocate for seniors throughout his tenure at the county.

About Penny: A big part of Penny's life experiences and learning about different cultures was due to growing up in the military and then serving in the Air Force. She was born in Maine, and lived in Spain, Montana, Turkey, Texas, Taiwan and the Philippines. She resided in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where she attended Northern Michigan University, in addition to settling in Georgia for the past 35 years. She loves dancing, dancing and more dancing!
