Sumter County Parks & Recreation Executive Director Sworn in as GRPA President-Elect
Tim Estes, executive director of the Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department, was installed as the President-Elect of the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) during its annual conference in Athens-Clarke County. Mr. Estes has served GRPA in several roles during his 29-year career in Sumter County.

Henry County Parks and Recreation Department Named Agency of the Year
The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department was recently named the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) Agency of the Year. In addition to the recognition, county employees Alex Mosely, John Kelly Lee, Kevin Patterson, Kathy Hunt, Terry Nash, and Thomas White received GRPA awards.

Former Sumter County Commissioner Posthumously Honored for Service | |
The late Sumter County Commissioner Andrea Fuse-Brooks was honored for her time served as the only female commissioner in Sumter County. To honor her service, the county hung a Civic Memorial Tribute Portrait in the Sumter County Courthouse. She was the first woman elected to the Sumter County Board of Commissioners and served three consecutive terms in her district. “What may I do for you, today?” was her trademark phrase. | |
Whitfield County Officials Foster Civic Engagement with Local Youth Leaders
Whitfield County Commissioner Barry Robbins and County Administrator Bob Sivick visited Southeast Whitfield High School to speak with students in the Raider Ambassador Student Program. Students learned about government services, taxes, growth within Whitfield County, the roles and responsibilities of local elected officials, and attended a Board of Commissioners meeting.

Spalding County Employees Recognized as Local Heroes
Spalding County is honored to have outstanding leaders who demonstrate strong leadership and selfless dedication to not only their careers but also to their community.
Those leaders, Fire Chief Mike Bryd (left), EMA Director Chief Glen Polk (center), and Parks and Public Safety Director Tj Imberger (right) are considered local heroes of the community. Their contributions have made Spalding County safer and more resilient, while their exceptional leadership has inspired others to strive for excellence in their own endeavors.

Harris County Celebrates Opening of New Fire Training Center | |
Harris County recently conducted a ribbon cutting for a new fire training center. The $700,000 training center features a large meeting space, offices, kitchen facility, and restrooms/showers. The facility will be used to conduct training meetings for the volunteer fire departments and community meetings. | |

Haralson County Employees Receive LGRMS Defensive Driving Training | Local Government Risk Management Services (LGRMS) Risk Control Manager Steve Shields conducted an eight-hour Defensive Driving Training session to 40 Haralson County employees. Maria Franklin, the county's safety coordinator, arranged for training to promote safety within the county, reduce workers' compensation and liability claims, and help employees potentially save money on their personal auto insurance. | |
Keep Cherokee Beautiful Celebrates Volunteers | |
During a recent Cherokee County Board of Commissioners meeting, the nonprofit Keep Cherokee Beautiful presented awards to those who work selflessly to support the organization's efforts. The Canton Optimist Club with Adopt-A-Mile was awarded Group of the Year and Craig Myers received the Volunteer of the Year award. Keep Cherokee Beautiful is volunteer led and county supported, with a focus on keeping Cherokee County clean, green and beautiful. | |
Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Raises Awareness of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment
Fort Moore Stray Facility and Cusseta-Chattahoochee County Director Lou Beck, along with her staff, partnered with the Martin Army Community Hospital - Sexual Harassment Assault Response Prevention (MACH-SHARP) team to host an event to bring awareness to Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment. During the event, active-duty members, retirees, civilians and their families wore teal shirts and walked 3.5 miles with animals from the Stray Facility. A few dogs were adopted and/or fostered as a result of the event.
