Board Recognizes

Commissioner Jay Walker, III for Service

Houston County Commissioner Jay Walker, III was recently honored for his dedication to serving on the ACCG Defined Benefit (DB) Board. Commissioner Walker has served on the DB board for 25 years and is set to retire at the end of the year.

Sumter County Participates in Breast Cancer Awareness Walk 

Sumter County's Health and Wellness Committee participated in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. The PINKTOBER activities and events were supported by all departments. Staff walked around the track “In Memory of”, “In Honor of” or “In Support of” anyone impacted by breast cancer. The event was held to raise breast cancer awareness, promote early detection, and educate about the importance of better health.

Talbot County Hosts

Groundbreaking Ceremony 

Talbot County Commissioners recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new community building site. The project is funded with proceeds from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). 

ACCG County Consulting Team

at Work in Bacon County

ACCG County Consulting team members Bill Twomey and Mary Beth Brownlee recently facilitated a series of educational forums in Bacon County on the process of changing the county's form of government. About 70 members of the community, including county commissioners, were in attendance.

Lowndes County’s Regional Food Bank Awarded CARES Act Funds

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs awarded Lowndes County and Second Harvest of South Georgia $18 million in grant funds through the federal CARES Act for the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus program. The purpose of the funding is to address increasing food insecurity in rural Georgia and provide better access to county residents.

Hall County Officials Connect with

Rep. Emory Dunahoo

at Regional Meetings

As part of the ACCG Regional Meetings, policy staff highlight the 2023 county legislative priorities. Representative Emory Dunahoo joined Hall County officials at a meeting this week to learn more and participate in the discussion of these issues. County officials are encouraged to invite their legislators to join them at the regional meetings. For the meeting schedule and registration information, click here.

Gwinnett County Breaks Ground on Hooper-Renwick Themed Library 

Gwinnett County officials, in conjunction with the city of Lawrenceville, the Hooper-Renwick Legacy Preservation Committee, and the Gwinnett County Public Library Board of Trustees, recently broke ground on the new Hooper-Renwick Themed Library. The themed library will renovate and expand the existing 11,400-square-foot Hooper-Renwick School building, which once served as the only public high school for African American students in Gwinnett County.
