Paulding County Home to New Aviation Maintenance Academy

Chattahoochee Technical College recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new aviation maintenance academy in Paulding County that will help ease the shortage of skilled mechanics in Georgia's aerospace industry.  The academy, which anticipates to begin classes in 2024, will train technicians who are in short supply as thousands of older workers are set to retire.

Floyd County Policy Department Supports Local Salvation Army

The Floyd County Police Department is proud to be working with the Salvation Army of Rome.  Officers recently spent a weekend working at the downtown facility, painting and resurfacing walls.  The project to restore the interior of their main offices is part of an officer volunteer outreach group called FCPD Works.  The Salvation Army also will receive all proceeds from the police department's 15th annual golf tournament scheduled for November 4.

Cobb County Receives AAA-Rating

Cobb County's Board of Commissioners recently recognized a signficant milestone, marking 25 years as an AAA-rated county by all three NY-based financial rating agencies.  Only 1.5% of counties nationwide can claim such a distinction, and Cobb County is one of only three in the State of Georgia (along with Columbia and Gwinnett).  Chief Financial Officer Bill Volckmann presented the Board with awards and brought in former county managers and financial managers as part of the presentation.

Spalding County Hosts Pro-Am Pickleball Tournament

The APP Atlanta Metro Open Pro-Am pickleball tournament, recently held in Spalding County, brought nearly 1,000 amateur and professional players, families and fans into Spalding County.  The event generated an estimated $1.25 million in economic impact. The county will host the tournament again from September 27 - October 1, 2023. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and Spalding County's Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park boasts a leading pickleball complex with 18 dedicated courts funded by a 2015 SPLOST.

Union County Opens

New Convenience Center

A new Union County convenience center is now open for business.  In addition to bagged trash, the facility accepts various types of recyclables for free.  This latest addition to Union County's recycling system makes a total of three convenience centers - offering enhanced garage and recycling service options.

Carroll County Employees Participate in Rivers Alive Event

Carroll County employees partnered with the community to host a Rivers Alive event at McIntosh Reserve Park.  The event was a huge success, with many bags of debris and trash picked up, allowing the parks to stay clean for everyone to enjoy.
