Fall Festival Season is in the Air
As cooler weather arrives and leaves begin to change, fall festivals like last weekend's Sorghum Festival in Blairsville (Union County) and the annual Fall Festival in Monroe (Walton County) pictured above are popular places to explore. Advanced Voting Begins
Across the State
Advanced in-person and absentee voting kicked off across the state this week for the November 2 General Election. While this election is primarily for municipal seats, many local referendums are also on the ballot. You can review the ballot for your jurisdiction here and check advance voting locations here.
Cherokee County Launches
Renovation of Historic Gymnasium
Cherokee County officials and residents recently gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony for renovations to be done at the historic Hickory Flat Gymnasium. The county had previously entered into a 50-year agreement with the school district to manage the facility and engaged the public to identify desired uses for it. The commission approved a $1.5 million construction agreement to renovate the gym, including structural improvements, ADA improvements, new HVAC, roofing and more.
Forsyth County Drain Art Contest Winners Announced
Keep Forsyth County Beautiful and the Forsyth County Department of Water and Sewer have announced three high school students as winners of the 2021 Storm Drain Art Contest. The contest called for high school students to submit artwork that educated on water quality and enhanced the theme Only Rain Goes Down the Drain. The contest winners will receive $100 in compensation for their work and will be painting their creations on designated storm drains throughout the county and city next spring.
