Gwinnett County Inmates in Veterans Unit Paint Impressive Murals
|
Gwinnett County Chief Deputy Lou Solis, a retired U.S. Army Ranger himself, created the Barracks Unit in the jail last year for incarcerated veterans. He wanted these inmates to take ownership of their temporary home by painting their cells with a fresh coat of paint. They began by painting cells and asked if they could try painting a mural. The result are these impressive works of art! They have also painted a mural in the chapel and in the GED classroom of the Inmate Services area.

Baldwin County Moves Into
New Government Building
|
Baldwin County recently opened the doors to its new government building. This $12 million project was paid for through a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) passed in late 2017. It houses the Board of Commissioners, code enforcement, planning, GIS, engineering, the tax commissioner, the tax assessor, the water department and voter registration/elections. The building was designed to make early voting much easier for the public.

Jones County Improves
Resident Internet Connectivity
through Fire Stations

Jones County recently enacted the Connectivity Enhancement Pilot Program. Through a partnership with Windstream, the county is installing access points at four of its fire stations, where residents can go for high-speed internet. Many county residents have struggled with internet access, and this initiative will not only improve their access but also is expected to improve firefighters' training and response times.
