Cherokee County Hosts Georgia Government Communicators Meeting

The Quarterly Government Communicators Meeting, a jointed initiative between ACCG and the Georgia Municipal Association, was recently hosted in Cherokee County at the newly built L.B. "Buzz" Ahrens, Jr. Recreation Center. Each quarter, government communicators from cities and counties across the state gather to discuss trending industry topics and to network with others in their field. This quarter's meeting included a presentation on crisis communications from industry expert Jim Satterfield of CrisisRisk Strategies, LLC, while LGRMS Health Promotion Services Manager Sherea Robinson provided tips for managing stress and building a healthier lifestyle.

Columbia County Parks and Recreation Department Receives National Accreditation from the CAPRA

The Columbia County Parks and Recreation Department received a prestigious accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). The CAPRA accreditation serves as a validation of Columbia County Parks, Recreation and Events' commitment to excellence and continuous improvement and affirms Columbia County’s compliance with the best practices of operational management and quality assurance at the national level. Additionally, it serves as a valuable measure of the quality of the department's operation, management, and service to the community. 

Floyd County Police Department Shows Support for Survivors of Domestic Violence


Leaders from the Floyd County Police Department recently participated in Rome's annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. The event is a fundraiser for the Hospitality House, an organization that assists survivors of domestic violence.

Jackson County Celebrates Breast Cancer Survivors

In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Jackson County showed acknowledgement and support for the current fighters and survivors of breast cancer through a pink out fundraiser. Through selling of shirts for the pink out, Jackson county helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society in the month of October.

Fayette County Animal Shelter Wins Friends Animal Society Award


The Fayette County Animal Shelter was awarded the "No-KILL Shelter" Award from the Best Friends Animal Society. Shelters with a 90% live release rate are eligible for this award from the Best Friends Animal Society. Fayette County Animal Control maintains an annual 96-98% live release rate annually and has operated a "no kill" shelter since 2018.

Monroe County Holds Ribbon Cutting for Recently Completed All-Abilities Baseball Field and Playground Area

Monroe County celebrated the official grand opening of the county’s all-abilities baseball field and playground at the Monroe County Recreation Department. The field's opening was held in conjunction with opening day for the brand-new Monroe Champions All-Abilities Baseball League, which will compete on the recently-completed “Field of Dreams.” A ribbon cutting celebration, which included Monroe County commissioners Greg Tapley (an ACCG Board member) and Eddie Rowland, was held prior to first pitch.

Lowndes County Commissioner Reappointed to NACo Policy Steering Committee


The National Association of Counties (NACo) President Mary Jo McGuire has reappointed Lowndes County Commissioner Demarcus Marshall to the Community, Economic, and Workforce Development Committee.  

The Community, Economic, and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy on all matters pertaining to housing, community and economic development, public works, and workforce development including the creation of affordable housing and housing options for different populations, residential, commercial, and industrial development, and building and housing codes.

ACCG County Consulting Services Manager Attends GCCMA Annual Conference


ACCG County Consulting Services Manager Bill Twomey attended the Georgia City-County Managers Association Annual Conference in DeKalb County.
