Carroll County Fire Rescue

Remembers Sept. 11

Each year, Carroll County Fire Rescue observes, remembers, and honors those lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001 when the nation came under attack by terrorists who crashed domestic commercial airliners into the World Trade Center. In observance of those lives lost, including 343 fellow firefighters, Carroll County's fire units were assigned to stage with American flags draped from each of the bridges which pass over Interstate 20 in Carroll County from the time the first tower was hit at 8:46 a.m. until the time the last tower fell at 10:28 a.m.

Crisp County Softball Program Knocks One Out of the Park Recognizing Community Leaders

Each year, the Crisp County Lady Cougar softball program hosts a game dedicated to Cancer Awareness. The Lady Cougars partnered with the Crisp Regional Oncology Department and presented them with a $1,000 donation. They also recognized local first responders and the entire healthcare community for continuously going above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Henry County Employees

Encourage Census Completion

with Door-to-Door Visits

Henry County EMA, Henry County Fire, McDonough Fire Department and other Henry County employees recently visited households in the community to encourage Census participation. Their goal was to make sure everyone had the resources they needed to participate in the Census, which is vital to Henry County's future.

Liberty County Uses Local Events to Encourage Census Participation

Warren County set up Census promotion during Market on Main in Warrenton. Volunteers Tyler and Madison Dawson gave away Census merchandise and encouraged people to complete the Census online. At the senior center, the county set up a dual monitor system so that volunteers could safely review and answer questions while seniors completed their Census.

Lamar County Hosts First Responders Appreciation Celebration

Lamar County recently hosted a First Responders Appreciation Celebration to honor the role these heroes play in their community. Deputy Justyn Weaver was one of the featured speakers. On August 8, Deputy Weaver responded without hesitation to a call where he was ambushed and shot in the line of duty. His selfless service to the community prevented tragic and violent acts against other citizens. Chairman Charles Glass presented Deputy Weaver with a proclamation in his honor (left). Name: Sonji Powe

Title: Medical Only Claims Examiner

Year Started: 2007

Sonji relocated to Atlanta from the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1999. Her favorite past times include watching sports - college/NFL football, track and field, and boxing. She enjoys listening to music (mostly jazz), reading, crossword puzzles, comedy shows and documentaries. She is single and without children, so she enjoys spending time with and spoiling her nieces and nephews. Prior to joining ACCG, she worked for seven years at Sedgwick CMS where she met ACCG Insurance Programs Director David Uhlman and Workers' Compensation Claims Manager Judy Fears.
