Georgia Responds to the Impacts of Hurricane Sally
Heavy rainfall from Hurricane Sally fell throughout Georgia on Wednesday evening and Thursday. Many counties, including Henry County EMA, activated their Emergency Operation Center in order to respond to damage within the county. According to the National Weather Service, rain totals across Georgia topped six inches in some parts of the state.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) East Central District shared this photo of the damage to Highway 24 in Washington County after two pipes blew out between Sandersville and Davisboro (credit Larry Morris). DOT estimates it will take approximately two months to get this highway repaired if the weather cooperates.
Cherokee County's September 11 Memorial Ceremony Goes Viral
Every year since the anniversary of 9/11, Cherokee County public safety has held a public memorial ceremony that is widely attended by the community. This year, the ceremony was pre-recorded, hosted on Facebook and YouTube and posted at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. In just a few short days, the video had more than 40,000 views. Watch it here. The Communications Department also highlighted the significance of the firefighter brotherhood through this tribute.
Baker County Promotes Census Participation by Sending Home Information through Schools
Baker County Chairman Connie Hobbs stopped by Baker County School and delivered Census promotion packets to Principal Boyd Williamson to be sent home with every one of the school's 280 students .
Hall County Adds Public Art Created by High School Students on Trail
Students in a welding class at North Hall High School recently created a trio of bottle trees as part of a public art project that the county is working on with the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's Vision 2030 Public Art Committee. The bottle "leaves" for the trees were collected by employees of the Hall County Resource Recovery Division. The artwork was installed on the Chicopee Section of the Highlands to Islands Trail by inmate crews from the Hall County Correctional Institute.
