Athens-Clarke County Veteran Steps into Role as New Commanding Officer for the Georgia State Defense Force
Athens Veteran Brigadier General Dennis Watts was recently selected to serve as the Commanding General for the Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF). Watts’ military career, which spans over 40 years, includes service in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer, Army Reserves, and the GSDF. Under the direction of Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia Adjutant General Major General Tom Carden, Watts will help lead the GSDF Soldiers when deployed to help with storm response, search and rescue operations, and Military to Military support to the Georgia National Guard. The GSDF is a component of the Georgia Department of Defense, along with the Georgia Air National Guard and Georgia Army National Guard.
