Walton County HR Superheroes
Conduct Employee Health Fair
Each fall, the Walton County Human Resources Department conducts a health fair for county employees. While the team had to scale back its usual plan due to COVID-19, they executed a safe, socially-distanced experience. Employees preregistered for a time to attend and were able to get a flu shot, have blood drawn, check bone density and blood pressure and more! Hats off to these superheroes!
An Apple a Day... in Hancock County!
Hancock Chairman Sistie Hudson and courthouse staff participated in Friday's Apple Crunch Day event organized by the Hancock County Health Improvement Partnership (HHIP) and Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH). The Georgia Department of Public Health North Central Health District received a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention REACH grant in 2018 to implement community health improvement strategies in Hancock County.
Forsyth County Expands Park Thanks to Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program
The Forsyth County Commission voted this week to accept a $2.25 million grant from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) for expanded development of Eagles Beak Park. The grant will allow the county to build additional pavilions and walking trails, including a river walk that will have a Trail of Tears component. The park is located along the Etowah River and already has some amenities in place. The county contributed matching funds of $767,259, which is planned to come from landfill host fees.
SilversSneakers Return to Class in Lumpkin County
The Lumpkin County Senior Center closed in March due to the pandemic, but classes resumed this week for the SilverSneakers class. The first outside class was held on Tuesday with 27 participants happily coming back together to exercise. The group employed safe social distancing of 10 feet, wore face coverings and had hand sanitizer readily available.
Another Big Push for the 2020 Census in Georgia this Week
A One-Stop Shop in Tift County
Tift County’s Complete Count Committee partnered with the Tifton-Tift County Public Library last weekend to provide an opportunity for citizens to complete their Census at the Tifton Mall. While people were shopping, they could stop by and complete their Census, apply for or renew a library card, or register to vote.
Census Bus Stops in Stewart County
As counties make the final push to get people to complete their Census, some are getting a little extra promotional help! A U.S. Census bus stopped on the courthouse square in Stewart County on Monday. Census workers are continuing their door to door outreach and the county has worked with community partners, including Family Connection, to increase participation.
