Remembering a Local Hero and
Service Members Lost in Afghanistan
The Bryan County Public Works Department replaced a road sign honoring United States Marine Corps Captain Matthew Freeman, which had been removed during road construction. Freeman was a hometown hero who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan in 2009. Thirteen American flags also were placed at the base of the sign to honor the American soldiers who recently lost their lives there while serving their country in Afghanistan.
Four Metro-Atlanta Female Chairs Participate in
Women Connect in Leadership Event
The Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce hosted a "Women Connect in Leadership" event this week. Speakers (pictured from left to right) included Henry County Chairman Carlotta Harrell, Forsyth County Chairman Cindy Mills, Dr. Malika Reed Wilkins (moderator), Gwinnett County Chairman Nicole Hendrickson and Cobb County Chairman Lisa Cupid. These four chairs represent over 2 million residents in the Atlanta region and it is the first year that four women have held this position in these metro-Atlanta counties at the same time. About 80 high school girls from eight Forsyth County high schools participated in the leadership event, along with other business and community leaders.
Baldwin County Opens New Splash Pad
Baldwin County recently completed the Harrisburg Park Splash Pad, which features an outdoor recreation area where children can play with water featuring spray nozzles coming out of the ground and shower attachments that release water from above. The park also features a playground, walking trail, community garden, orchard and new basketball courts.
New Senior Center Opens
in Douglas County
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Douglas County Senior Services Department, county staff, state and federal official representatives recently celebrated the opening of the new Lithia Springs Senior Center. The faciily was built using $4.8 million in SPLOST funds. Television personality Monica Kaufman Person served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.

About Jason: Jason resides in Thomaston with his wife, Kaylyn, who is the State Government Affairs Director for Global Payments Inc. and their children- Jackson (17), Joel (15), Jensen (12) and Anne (2). Jason enjoys training for half marathons and traveling to watch his kids participate in prep sports (football and baseball). He is an aviation enthusiast and keeps a detailed lifetime record of his commercial air travel. So far he has traveled to 73 airports in the U.S. and 10 foreign countries. He's flown on 24 different airlines and on 44 different aircraft types.
