ACCG's Capitol Connection Conference Converges on Fulton County
House Speaker David Ralston Addresses Counties on Key Issues
County officials came to Atlanta this week to participate in ACCG's Capitol Connection Conference. House Speaker David Ralston told them, "Speak now or forever hold your peace," with regard to the state budget and proposed cuts. As part of this event, county officials also learned about key legislative issues under consideration by the Georgia Legislature that may impact counties.

Making the Case for Georgia's Counties
ACCG Deputy Legislative Director Todd Edwards and GMA Senior Governmental Relations Associate Charlotte Davis testified against HB 937 (preemption of local design standards) in the House Agriculture Committee.  
Columbia County Manager Scott Johnson testified in support of SB 406 (legal organ process) in the Senate State and Local Governmental Operations Committee this week.
Red Cross Recognition
for Walker County Fire Rescue
The Red Cross of Georgia honored Walker County Fire Rescue for its exemplary partnership to install free smoke alarms that saved eight lives in two recent home fires. It was the most lives saved in Georgia in a single month since the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign began in 2014. Over the past two years firefighters have placed 1,000 free smoke alarms in homes in Walker County, supplied by the Red Cross and other organizations.
ACCG County Consulting Works with Georgetown-Quitman County
Bill Twomey and Mike O'Quinn, part of ACCG's County Consulting team, met with officials from Georgetown-Quitman County and provided training on issues related to personnel and financial policies. Funding Aimed at Camden County Recreational Shooting Complex
The Camden County Board of Commissioners accepted an amended, executed intergovernmental agreement to receive an additional $900,000 in funding from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to complete the 200-yard rifle range, sidewalks and fencing for the Camden County Recreational Shooting Complex.
Georgia House Celebrates Marion County GFC Unit as Region's Best
Chief Ranger Justin Brown (left), manager of the GFC Marion County Unit, is pictured with Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) Director Chuck Williams (center) and ACCG Director Dave Wills (right). Brown and his staff were recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives on their selection as the best unit in the northern Georgia region. Brown and Wills reside in Webster County.
Baker County Career Day Outreach
Baker County Chairman Connie Hobbs and County Manager Sherry Bailey participated in Baker County School Career Day, discussing job opportunities with county government, voter registration and why it is important that everyone is counted in the 2020 Census.
Stewart County Promotes Employee Health
Local Government Risk Management Services Health Promotion Representative Candace Amos shared health tips with Stewart County employees, allowing them to take charge of their health.
