Get Ahead of Lead!

This week marks the observance of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Awareness Week, aligning seamlessly with the broader theme of National Children's Health Month. While you might have come across recent news regarding the enforcement of lead-safe rentals, it's essential for all of us to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our community's children from lead exposure.

Here are 3 things you can do from home to make Cuyahoga County safer for children to grow, learn, and develop to their fullest potential:

1: Be a Hero to our Kids!

Share the above graphic with your social networks, linking it to our Parent Support Lead Program page. Help other Cuyahoga parents concerned about lead exposure get the tools they need including free supplies, lead-safe demonstrations, information, and resource referrals through our program. Let them 'Get Ahead of Lead'.

2: Empower & Educate Yourself!

Explore local data, webinars, and resources at Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition (LSCC). If you own or work on Cleveland properties, join free EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting trainings training to become certified like our two staff members!

3: Keep Your Home Healthy!

Cleveland Water asks any county residents of homes built before 1954 to report their type of water service line. There is an online reporting form and you can even upload a photo. Find tips on faucet care, flushing old water, and more on CWD's website to maintain water and home health.

Bright Beginnings will be at two community lead awareness events Saturday, October 28th that encourage children to come costumed.

Outdoors:

Join us for the Lead Walk from the Western Reserve Fire Museum to a pep rally in Ohio City, starting at 11am (check-in at 10am). Look for Sara at our resource table. Plus, join the sign-making party on Oct. 26th for a behind-the-scenes experience!

Indoors:

Check out a Resource Fair at the ECPL Haunted Library event in the Performing Arts Center from 10am-2pm. (Look for Rachel tabling and presenting at the fair.)
