TEXAS BROADBAND PLAN
Texas now has a roadmap to get more Texans on the “information superhighway” (as the internet was once called) by expanding broadband access and closing the state’s digital divide. The state’s initial Texas Broadband Plan was released by Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar and the state’s Broadband Development Office (BDO) on June 15.

Representatives of the Texas Cable Association (TCA) and of cable providers – as the largest providers of broadband in both the state and nation – attended and provided comments during a 12-city, statewide listening tour by Hegar and the BDO at which they gathered input to guide development of the plan. In addition, more feedback was submitted at 60 virtual regional roundtable and through 16,000 survey response.

“Comptroller Hegar and the Broadband Development Office performed thorough research and put careful thought into compiling the state’s first broadband plan,” said TCA President Walt Baum. “The document is a solid start to getting more Texans connected to broadband.”
REMINDER: DIALING CHANGES
Spectrum voice customers in seven Texas area codes are now required to dial 10 digits to make a phone call – a change that will be effective statewide and nationwide for customers of all telecommunications providers starting July 16.
