ADVANCING 10G: CABLELABS REACHED SEVERAL KEY MILESTONES IN 2021

Last year, CableLabs and its members took major steps toward making 10G a reality. There were numerous launches, enhancements, and even a couple of “firsts.” Every one of these initiatives – from launching the 10G Challenge to enhancing specification requirements – will play an important role in building the faster, more secure and reliable networks of the future.

WHY WI-FI 6E IS THE BREAKTHROUGH GAMERS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR

When the FCC voted in 2020 to make 1,200 megahertz of spectrum available for unlicensed use, millions of gamers around the country had cause to celebrate. Now, the result of that measure is making its way into the hands of consumers in the form of Wi-Fi 6E-enabled routers, with gamers standing to benefit most.
GOVERNOR ABBOTT RECEIVES BROADBAND AWARD
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott visited Beaumont and McAllen to laud Texas broadband expansion achievements and also receive the Broadband Champion Award from Connect the Future Texas (CTF), a coalition dedicated to expanding broadband access the state. Abbott was honored for his commitment to raising awareness and promoting solutions to ensure every Texan has access to reliable broadband connectivity in an increasingly digital age. Houston nonprofit receives $35,000 grant from Hispanic Federation and Comcast NBCUniversal
Houston’s Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans has been selected as one of 20 Latino-led and serving nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a $35,000 grant from the Hispanic Federation in partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal to enhance and expand its digital workforce training activities. Comcast honors Houston area humanitarians with cash donations to nonprofits
Comcast Houston is searching for five local humanitarians to honor through its inaugural Agents of Change Awards. Comcast will award each honoree with a $5,000 donation to a non-profit organization of their choosing. Online nominations opened May 2. Read more.
 
Comcast activates new $1.4M fiber-rich network in city of Waller
Comcast announced the activation of its new $1.4 million fiber-rich network in the City of Waller, bringing internet speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps) in homes and up to 100 Gbps in businesses to thousands of local residents and business owners. Comcast also announced it will be investing $35,000 in digital equity grants to help close the digital divide in Waller, along with a donation of 150 free laptops for students in need. Read more.
