Frosh Day of Service

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Wednesday, October 16, 2024 is the 11th annual Frosh Day of Service. This is a special day when the entire freshman class engages in the Carondelet mission of “serving our dear neighbor.” Our Carondelet students are known for their generous service to the wider community. This year, we are excited to bring back the tradition of sending our students out to volunteer in the local community. Please note that this is an integral part of our curriculum and is not an optional activity for any student. We have planned for and expect full participation of all 9th grade students on this very important day.

On Oct 1 or 2, your student will receive the permission slip and waiver for their service site (if the site has a waiver) in their religion class. Both forms need to be signed by a parent/guardian and are due on Friday Oct 4. It is imperative that this is returned by the 4th of October as we have to provide the required information to the site in advance of the day of service. If your student loses their permission slip or waiver, they will need to visit the Main Office to get a new copy.

Important Details:

  • Drop off information: Frosh students should plan to arrive on campus at 8:00 AM. For this special event, they must be dropped off in the drop off zone. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the day.
  • All freshman students will report to the Inner Court as soon as they arrive on campus to help the check in and attendance process go smoothly.
  • Every student needs to do the following:
  • eat a hearty breakfast
  • bring a reusable water bottle (labeled with their name)
  • bring a brown-bag lunch and snack. Your student will not have access to a microwave or fridge.
  • bring a small backpack to hold their lunch and water bottle
  • wear a Carondelet shirt, t-shirt, or sweatshirt and pants that they don’t mind getting dirty
  • wear comfortable shoes (no open-toed shoes for safety reasons)
  • FOR OUTDOOR LOCATIONS (Save Mt. Diablo, The Bounty Garden, Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation): a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses are recommended. Pants and shoes with good tread (like hiking boots or shoes) are important. Leggings are NOT recommended.
  • The Bounty Garden only: bring gardening gloves if you have a pair.
  • After a morning welcome and prayer, all students will board buses and ride to their community service sites. Each bus and community service site will have faculty/staff chaperones to supervise and assist while off campus.
  • Students will eat lunch and reflect on their experiences together in a structured format.
  • All students will be dismissed at 1:45 PM. Students will be directed to the drop off zone for parent pick up.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Vanessa Miranda via email or phone. We look forward to this unique day where our students will be able to serve the dear neighbor!

Peace and blessings,
