donorsMEET OUR DONORS
This interview is with John and Virginia Chapel of the Chapel Family Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation.  The Chapels are the 2017 Raise the Region Gala Challenge Sponsor, and are long-time supporters of the Gala.

Why do you support the Community Foundation, what does it mean to you?
We believe that supporting our causes through the Community Foundation is a good way add value to our giving because the Community Foundation uses our funds' earnings to support its many charitable endeavors.

Can you tell us about your philanthropy through your fund here?
To-date, our funding has been primarily focused on Virginia's alma mater, The Pennsylvania State University, and John's, Drexel University. Our philanthropy has been provided through  programs that aid deserving students who have been trying to support themselves but have come up a little short. Both of us had to work part time while we were in school ...

You may be looking for a way to make a big difference to help further our mission. If you are 70½ or older you may also be interested in a way to lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals. An IRA charitable rollover is a win-win way that you can help continue our work and benefit this year.  Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover:
  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to our organization
  • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  • Make a gift that is not subject to the 50% deduction limits on charitable gifts
  • Help further the work and mission of our organization
Note that the charitable rollover can only go to general operating, a giving circle, a field of interest fund, or a discretionary fund. As the year winds down, be sure to include charitable giving in your tax savings strategies. Visit our web site for more information on how to give smartly through IRA charitable rollovers or call Eileen Ellsworth at 703-879-7635 for more information.
