NEWS FROM THE CABOOSE

We know the winter snows are getting close when a steady stream of athletic-looking folks stop by to renew their memberships and pick up their discount Chamber ski pass vouchers. Don't get me wrong, it's a great benefit and an excellent example of collaborative marketing and business development: SkiCo gets early and widespread enrollment; the Chamber offers a compelling benefit to businesses; and members enjoy and can share with their employees significant savings on season passes.

But.... Are You Using All Your Member Benefits?

Sam and I scratch our heads thinking of ways to encourage business owners to take advantage of the many other benefits Chamber membership affords - benefits that could net you far more through the year than the generous discount on your season pass.

Here are 9 ways you can easily derive greater value from your membership
in the Basalt Chamber of Commerce

1. Go big on the Chamber's website... for free!

One of the biggest and most expensive challenges business owners face is getting the word out about what they offer. As a Chamber member, your business or service is automatically listed on our website. Did you know that you now also receive a free enhanced profile page? It's easy, takes very little time, and once you're up you can update your page, share your business news and communicate with potential customers. To take advantage of this complimentary benefit contact Sam and she'll walk you through the steps.

2. Advertise for Free in this Weekly Newsletter.

Do you find yourself cringing as you prepare your annual advertising budget? Social media and the internet afford countless opportunities that are budget friendly or even free. For example, Chamber members enjoy a free ad each quarter right here. That's a reach of 1,000 and growing. Or, keep your company in the public eye every week for only $20 per mailing. Contact us to get started.

3. Send Us Your News.

Having a special sale or event? Proud to announce a new client? Have a new house for sale in Basalt? Let us know in 35 words or less and we'll post it at no charge in the new Basalt Bizness Buzz section of our newsletter along with your email address or website. Send your info here.

4. Share Your Industry Expertise With Your Peers.

We love sharing your news but there's an even better way to get your name and business out in public. Write an article that provides educational content that's relevant and useful to other business owners and managers. We'll post up to 500 words on this page, and can link longer articles. Just contact us with your ideas and we'll schedule you in.

5. Take the Stage at the Lunch & Learn

Do you have more to say than can be covered in an article or a bullet? Consider signing up to speak at the monthly Lunch & Learn. We have so many bright, talented people among our members. Let's help each other keep up-to-date on the latest insurance changes, tax codes, investment ideas, personnel requirements, social media shortcuts or on-the-job health tips like our event this Wednesday.

6. Post on the Basalt Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page

Our Facebook "likes" are a breath away form 2,000. That's a lot of free exposure. Take your 35-word news post and jump over to the Chamber's Page to get more bang for your few minutes of creative effort. Every good marketer knows that the more people and more often your message reaches your intended audience the better the result. (If you haven't yet "liked" the Chamber, please do now. As you know, we're all about sharing the connection and don't want you to miss a thing, plus we do appreciate the affection.)

7. Broadcast Your News.
Your Chamber membership offers ample networking opportunities to talk about your business. Stop by the monthly Business After Hours, meet the hosts and exchange business cards. For just a dollar, you can take the stage, share your latest news and practice your presentation to a rapt and friendly audience.

8. Host an After Hours Event Yourself.
So much time is spent chasing down new customers and clients. Why not host an event that brings them right to your front door. Our Business After Hours are social events but we all know that some of our best leads come from the golf course, chance encounters on the streets and community gatherings. Don't have space to host a large event? No problem. Team up with a nearby business or two and get the same promotional advantage while putting on a great communal event. We're scheduling for 2015 now, so contact us to get your name on the list.

9. Discounted Advertising & Other Special Benefits for Chamber Members.
Last but certainly not least, your chamber membership brings you discounts on newspaper advertising, printing, RFTA bus passes, gym memberships, shipping and car rentals. If you don't know all that's available, take a look here and call us if you have any questions.

Be sure to check back as we're building a host of new benefits to take effect within the next few months. If you'd like to offer a special discount or program for your fellow members let us know. We'll set it up and presto you get additional exposure and good will for minimal effort. That's your business community working together and working for you!

Warm regards,
Robin

Employee Transportation Survey
Garfield/Eagle/Pitkin Counties, Participating Municipalities, CDOT and RFTA
We Need Your Help!

To: Employers in the Roaring Fork/Colorado River region (Aspen to Parachute)

From: Garfield / Eagle / Pitkin Counties, participating municipalities, CDOT and RFTA

Re: Employee Transportation Survey

Dear Employers:

The local governments of the Roaring Fork/Colorado River region, CDOT and RFTA are working together on a study of local and regional travel patterns.  Results will be used to plan, design and implement local transportation projects and services throughout the area.

  • The study sponsors strongly encourage your organization to participate in this study, by inviting your employees to take an online survey within the next 10 days.

  • We have provided a suggested survey invitation for you to email to (and/or post for) your employees below, which you can use or adapt.
  • In appreciation for employees' time and input, $50 grocery gift cards will be awarded to 10 randomly selected employees from among all responses received.

By way of background, this is the second of two rounds of surveys.  The first was completed in March/April and focused on winter travel.  This second survey will provide data about summer travel.

If you have any technical questions regarding this study, please contact David Becher at RRC Associates (the company assisting with the study) at 1-888-449-4772 (toll free), or [email protected].   The contact for the study sponsors is David Johnson at RFTA, 970-384-4797.

Thank you for your help with this important study!  Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Garfield / Eagle / Pitkin Counties, participating municipalities, CDOT and RFTA

The Aspen Clinic and TAC Fit Will Present Tomorrow, August 27th

"Healthy Workers Equals Healthy Profits"

A growing body of research suggests that nurturing employee health & wellness has a significant impact on productivity -which, as we know has a direct bearing on company profitability. There is a direct connection between our state of minds and bodies and the quality of our work. For every dollar invested in a wellness program, the employer saves more than the dollar spent.

How does The Aspen Clinic propose that we do this?

Through collaboration of health providers, locally and across the state, to help business's develop these "lifestyle programs and whole patient services" allowing employees to become more proactive when dealing with their own health.

We will have a discussion about what is working for organizations and what is not working. We will provide information on how to improve employee health and wellness within the organization, and the existing resources outside of the organization.

Space is limited and is by prepaid reservation only! All reservations must be prepaid by 5:00pm on Monday, August 25th. The cost to attend is $15 for members of the Basalt or Carbondale Chambers and $25 for non-members.

Call the Basalt Chamber at 927-4031 to make your reservation today!

Lunch is catered by Downvalley Tavern. This is a monthly event held the last Wednesday of each month and presented by the Basalt Chamber, the Carbondale Chamber and Downvalley Tavern.
