FACES OF DEVOTION : Don't Be Afraid
As a teenager, Mike Speziale had a difficult loss in his life. After struggling for a few years, he had a unique experience at The Miraculous Medal Shrine—one that would dramatically affect his life.

FUN FACT:
The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows dates back to the twelfth century and was promoted strongly by the Cistercians and Servites (the Servites made this the principal devotion of their order in 1239). In the fifteenth century, Pope Sixto IV added the feast to the Roman Missal, with a Mass centered on the suffering of our Blessed Mother as she stood at the foot of the Cross.

IN YOUR OPINION :
In our February inSPIRE , we asked you about your favorite Marian Devotion. All of you who responded said it was the Rosary — and you pray it daily. Some of you begin with a song, some pray with a podcast, and others pray the Litany of Loreto afterwards.

This month, take our survey about your Lenten observances. The results will appear in the April issue of this newsletter.

"My son was a vibrant, young spirit ready to begin preschool when he suddenly became gravely ill. In my shock, I sought the intercession of our Mother, giving her my broken heart and the care of my child, and praying the Miraculous Medal rosary constantly by his side. The doctors were baffled. He was a very sick child. It took over twenty days to diagnose him with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He is now a happy, grown man, and his RA is well controlled. Thank you, Mary!"

The word Lent comes from the Old English word lencten, which means spring. Lent is a season of spiritual preparation for Easter. For centuries, Christians have observed fasting, prayer, and almsgiving during this season to unite themselves with Christ and prepare for Easter Sunday.

As you begin your Lenten practices, prayerfully consider making a gift to the Miraculous Medal Shrine. Your donation ensures the Shrine remains a place for people to come and experience her tender help, peace, and intercession. 

It’s not too late to submit your Lenten prayer intentions to The Miraculous Medal Shrine, which will remain at Mary’s Altar until Easter. You can also give an Easter card to a loved one , and the Vincentians will pray for them and their intentions from Easter through Pentecost.
