Our Blessed Mother is always working for the glory of God. In the past few years, she's been touching the hearts and lives of people we rarely think about. And she's here for you, too. You don't need social distancing or a mask with her, and she's available any time of the day or night. Come, let yourself be loved.

Orthodox Christians and Catholics both see Mary as the "Mother of God"
—in Greek, "Theotokos." This title for Mary was accepted at the Council of Ephesus in
431 AD and has more to do with Jesus than it does Mary. It reflects the belief that Jesus was fully God and man.

In April's inSPIRE, we asked you which Easter traditions you enjoyed this year. More than 85% of you said you watched Mass on TV, more than 50% said you had Easter baskets, and 45% of you enjoyed a ham dinner. A third of you read Biblical Easter accounts, decorated Easter eggs, had Easter egg hunts, and enjoyed hot cross buns
.
This month,
take our survey
about Mother's Day. The results will appear in June's inSPIRE

Since its very beginnings, the Church has honored Mary as our mother. In the 13th century, King Alfonso X (the King of Castile, León, and Galicia in Spain) wrote about honoring Mary with special devotions during May. The Miraculous Medal Shrine, too, has sung her praises and promoted devotion to her since the first Vincentians arrived in Philadelphia more than 170 years ago.
You can honor Mary during May by putting a statue or picture of her in a special place in your home, and praying a Rosary or the
Miraculous Medal Novena prayers to her every day.
|
|
In these difficult days, even from your home, you can bring help, hope, and healing to a hurting world. And, at the same time, you can have your intentions at Mary's statue for the entire month of May. While we won't be able to have a May Procession due to COVID-19, our Vincentians will place
your intentions at Mary’s feet, where they will remain for the month. They'll also be praying for you and your intentions. It's a win-win situation.
And to all of you who have mailed us your roses (or will mail them), they will also be placed at Mary's feet.

Many of us can't be with our mothers
—some have passed on, some live across the country, some are in assisted living homes, where we can't visit them. So amidst this pandemic, we still want to honor our natural mothers
and our Blessed Mother. We just might need to get a little creative.
Tell us how you are going to honor your mom this Mother's Day.
And if you'd like to
share your idea with others, send us a picture of what you're going to do, and we'll post it on social media.
