Protect Public Media!

In recent weeks, various reports in the media have indicated there is movement in Washington to eliminate federal support of public broadcasting and the arts. This has been proposed many times in the past and has failed, but, to be sure, times are different and unpredictable.

Why does this matter? KVMR, our volunteer-driven local emergency broadcast station, delivers 24/7 news, music, and commentary and provides the local community with abundant opportunities to have their voices heard on-air and online, whether it's local musicians celebrating an upcoming performance or CD release, non-profits sharing their passion and challenges, or community leaders discussing issues of concern. We partner with local arts and non-profit organizations to promote and organize events and town hall forums and produce nightly news programs to help keep our community engaged and informed. KVMR receives 15-20% of its funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the organization responsible for distributing the annual federal budget allocation.
Loss of this support could significantly impact KVMR's ability to carry out its mission in our local community.

What can you do? Protect My Public Media, a coalition of radio, television and digital groups is ramping up to educate Congress about the necessity of noncommercial media and why Americans want it funded. The #ProtectPublicMedia social media campaign is one part of that effort. The public is invited to submit testimonials about why noncommercial media matters. Voice your support for KVMR and all public media now!

Spark & Whisper

Spark & Whisper "Monument CD Release Show" with special guest
Hannah Jane Kile Thursday, March 16th at 7pm at the Nevada Theatre.

"Monument contains equal parts cool breeze and nitro-glyceryn guitar riffage. Spark & Whisper can truly do no wrong no matter what style they play in - like the Moody Blues crossed with Crosby Stills & Nash - an absolute pleasure in a world in desperate need of REAL music." - Gas House Radio
