| | | | The City of Perry Proclaims September as National Service Dog Month | | |
Mayor Walker, Mayor Pro-Tem James Moody, and Perry City Council joined the Shumate family and their late son’s service dog to honor the special bond between people and their service dogs.
Service dogs empower people with disabilities to live with greater independence, confidence, and dignity. More than 70 million adults in the U.S. have a disability, yet only about 16,000 service dogs from accredited training programs are currently serving nationwide — and the need continues to grow.
The City of Perry proclaims September as National Service Dog Month and encourages our community to celebrate service dogs, honor their handlers, and respect their rights of safe access throughout our city.
