TMC Meet Me Downtown 5K
June 6, 2020

Dear Tucson & Beyond Running Community:
We're writing with an update on our planning for the scheduled June 6th TMC Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run and Walk.
While we'd love to run from the realities of COVID-19 and get back to normal, the world is in the midst of coming to terms with a new normal. We're learning new ways to engage with others, to be near people, to co-exist.
We wish we could provide the in-person experience that we all love, but unfortunately the City of Tucson is not able to permit large gatherings or deploy the large amount of police and other resources needed for a Downtown event.
Thus, we're going to make this a virtual event and we're working on a plan to create a fun-filled and exciting month-long experience while keeping the running population safe during this public health crisis.
We'll have more information over the coming weeks, but please read below for some of the details on this year's first-ever virtual TMC MMD 5k.
You can see our Virtual FAQ here.
We wish you and yours the very best during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Tia & Randy Accetta

We've capped all TMC MMD pricing at $35 -- whether 5k or mile everyone will get the same great virtual race experience. Grab 4 friends and get the team discount!
Remember -- you can also save money and snag registration to the popular 3-race Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown.

|
|
Step 2. Get training tips
|
Wanna' stay motivated and keep healthy? Certified Coach Tia Accetta will send you weekly 5K training plans and host Zoom talks throughout the month of May. Visit www.runtucson.net for your training needs.
|
|
Step 3. Connect on Social Media
|
Have some fun and snag gift cards to local businesses and restaurants. Follow Run Tucson on
Instagram
and
Facebook
for weekly updates and virtual community-building activities, complete with raffle prizes for local small businesses. Tag @runtucson and use #MMD5K or #GZTripleCrown.
|
|
Step 4. Complete the One Mile or the 5K
|
Run or walk a 5K or Mile on the weekend of Friday, June 5th or Saturday, June 6th or Sunday, June 7th.
We won't be able to offer prize money or hold competitive open or age-group divisions, so we'll use The Running Shop gift cards as raffle awards in a range of categories.
We'll tabulate results and do a final raffle with prizes from local Tucson restaurants and businesses.
Finally, we're cooking up some cool innovations for you -- we'll let you know as soon as we finalize some details . . .

Donations
We're committed to providing $10 from every Triple Crown registration to the BEYOND-Tucson Foundation.
This endowed fund helps TMC HealthCare employees who are experiencing financial hardship. Our health care professionals are feeling the constraints of school closures, illness of their loved ones and other hardships. Your help can allow them to put their focus on healing and caring for others. This fund supports short-term financial assistance for critical needs such rent/mortgage payments, child care, insurance/medical needs, groceries and utilities.
We're all facing challenging times, but you can still help our local charities and make donation through
our race registration page
Greater Tucson Leadership
Children's Museum, Tucson
Educational Enrichment Foundation
Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists
the Humane Society of Southern Arizona
Thanks to Cox Communications, Cox Charities, Rio Nuevo, and Tucson Medical Center!

It's all about the angles, baby: Randy modeling the unisex size Large with a bag of fireplace kindling in the background . . .
The race shirts seem to fit true to size, unless you have a longer torso. The women's cut shirts are fitted, but also true to size.

|
Thanks to all of our race sponsors for helping enable this long-standing tradition!
We've written to the early-bird registrants to let 'em know that we're mailing their TMC MMD 5k shirts and Gabe Z Triple Crown shirts. If you register after April 20th, your shirt(s) will be available on race weekend, more info. to follow.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR RUN TUCSON EVENTS
|
|
POSTPONED
In partnership with the University of Arizona, this race was postponed until we can gather together in person at the Biosphere 2.
We've written to all race participants with more details, but if you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].
|
|
VIRTUAL
Yup, we had to make the move to Virtual.
Remember: you can sign up for the Gabe Zimmerman Triple Crown to receive a 3-for-1 registration.
|
|
VIRTUAL OPTION AVAILABLE, WITH HOPE FOR IN-PERSON RACES
We're moving the TMC Night Run to a Virtual Race, but we're holding out hope that we can offer an in-person running of September's TMC Tucson 10k and October's TMC Get Moving Half Marathon.
Having said that, we've long had a VIRTUAL CROWN option, allowing all runners and walkers to participate even without being on hand on the scheduled event day.
|
|
HOPING TO BE IN PERSON
Given that this fun race is in November, we're moving forward with planning in full expectation that we'll hold this event in the beautiful Kaibab National Forest, adjacent to the Grand Canyon National Park.
