In this issue, we highlight key Homecoming events, including Visiting Alumni Day, where graduates share their experiences with students, the Memorial Service honoring those we’ve lost, and the highly anticipated Homecoming tailgate experience, a celebration of community and legacy.
Beyond Homecoming, Central State is making strides on the national stage. We’re proud to be leading the way in a $10 million climate resilience initiative. Additionally, we've partnered to launch the KeyBank Scholars Program to support student tuition and collaborated on groundbreaking semiconductor research.

Homecoming tailgate: A tradition of fellowship, fun, and legacy
As Central State University gears up for the highly anticipated Homecoming celebration, alumni, students, and the entire Marauder family are buzzing with excitement. The tailgating experience is one of the most beloved traditions, bringing together generations of Central State graduates for two days of fun, food, and fellowship.

Central State University celebrates 17th year of Visiting Alumni Day
Each year, during Homecoming, Central State University alumni return to campus for a special event that truly embodies the spirit of family and connection — Visiting Alumni Day. Now in its 17th year, this event provides alumni with a unique opportunity to share their experiences and insights with current students, building bridges between generations of Central State Marauders. Annual Homecoming Memorial Service draws alumni from near and far
Each year, alumni gather not only to celebrate but also to honor and remember those who are no longer with us. The annual Memorial Service, held in the Sunken Garden, is a solemn and impactful tradition that reflects the deep respect the Marauder community holds for its fallen members.
Following the Saturday morning Alumni and Friends Scholarship Breakfast and Alumni Meeting, Centralians recess to the Sunken Garden, one of the University’s most hallowed spaces. Read more

Central State shines at White House Initiative National HBCU Week Conference | |
Central State University proudly represented the excellence of HBCUs at the 53rd annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucus in from Sept. 12-15 in Washington, D.C., and the 2024 White House Initiative National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference from Sept. 15-19 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The annual event brings together key leaders from HBCUs across the nation to celebrate the pivotal role these institutions play in shaping the future of higher education, economic development, and workforce preparation.
Dr. Morakinyo A.O. Kuti, President of Central State University, joined a distinguished group of HBCU presidents for an important roundtable with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. During this high-profile meeting, discussions centered on how HBCUs like Central State can contribute to national security through research, workforce development, and talent pipelines, particularly in fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Later, President Biden praised a groundbreaking achievement by CSU during his address to HBCU leaders, underscoring the significant impact Central State is making on the national stage.

CSU to enhance climate initiatives with $10M in funding
Central State University is proud to be at the forefront of a national effort to enhance climate resilience. As part of a $10 million initiative announced by the U.S. Department of Energy, CSU has been selected to contribute to the development of Climate Resilience Centers across the country. Read more

University leads semiconductor research
Central State University has been selected to lead a national consortium through the Partnership for Advancing Research Capacity in Semiconductors at HBCUs (PARCS-HBCU), a $3 million project funded by the National Science Foundation. Read more

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service chief speaks at Convocation Series
Central State University welcomed Terry Cosby, chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), as part of its weekly Convocation Series on Sept. 17.
Following the convocation, Cosby held a press conference with CSU President Dr. Morakinyo A.O. Kuti and other University leaders. Vivian A. Dickson, director of Equity in the Office of the Chief at NRCS, also attended the event. Read more

Partnership establishes new
KeyBank Scholars Program for tuition support
KeyBank and the KeyBank Foundation proudly announced an investment of $480,000 in Ohio’s only public Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and 1890 Land-Grant Institution, Central State University. Grant dollars given to the University will establish the KeyBank Scholars (KBS) Program to implement summer bridge programs, providing tuition support for 40 students over a five-year period.
