The month of March is Social Work Month and the Child Abuse Prevention Council is pleased to highlight the work of social workers who enrich our society. Social workers take on society’s difficult challenges. They do the up-close, personal work needed to empower struggling individuals to live their lives to the fullest. They bring hope and security to those wrestling with life’s hardships. Social workers clear a path for folks to face their hardships and work to overcome them. CAPC is proud to work in partnership with school social workers, Contra Costa Children and Family Services (CFS) social workers, and other community-based organizations to strengthen families, prevent child maltreatment and build safe communities. Social workers are often unseen in our lives, but always there to keep families headed in the right direction.
An article written by Regina Brett, a social worker in Cleveland, said it well. When asked the question “What do Social Workers make?” Her answer was perfect: “They make forgotten people feel cherished, ugly people feel beautiful, confused people feel understood and broken people feel whole”. They make more than most people will ever make. They make a difference.
Thank you for supporting CAPC as we strive to live up to Ms. Brett’s words and make a difference in Contra Costa County.
