A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JACKI
"GET THE WORD OUT"
SUNDAY PREVIEW FOR 12/16/18
SUNDAY PREVIEW FOR 12/16/18

This Sunday we light the odd (pink) candle on the Advent wreath. The third week of Advent represents joy. Sunday marks the halfway point on our Advent journey. J oy, like hope, is often mistaken for something it is not. It doesn’t equate with happiness or excitement, both of which can come in short bursts and flame out as quickly as they emerge. Joy is deep-rooted and grounded in an interior sense of well-being. It often emerges at unexpected times and in unusual ways.  Plan to join us this Sunday for worship as we light the 3rd Advent candle.

The Importance of Hospitality
Let's not take serving on Sundays lightly, for we have a responsibility to make worship at NSCC, a joyful, inspiring and transformational experience for everyone who comes through our doors. If you have committed to serving and are not able to serve on your designated Sunday, please find someone to cover for you so that Sunday will be successful at NSCC. Also, if you haven't sign up to serve yet, please do so, your help is needed.
Let's serve well together - See ya on Sunday!

THIS MONTH'S MEDITATION
A Meditation on Love and Comfort
TODAY'S DAILY WORD
Divine Light

I AM GUIDED BY MY INNER LIGHT.
Unity authors Richard and Mary-Alice Jafolla wrote, “With the realization of God’s active presence in our lives, the specter of fear disappears into the mists of the unreal—like a snowball dropped into a pail of hot water.” I recognize the struggle of holding on to the “snowball of fear” even though I know the truth of God’s presence is always with me.

At times I may find letting go of my unbelief difficult. So I increase my practice of prayer and meditation. I refocus my thoughts away from fear and toward God within. I visualize the snowball disappearing and instead see the warmth of divine light filling, surrounding, and going before me. In the depth of my being, I know nothing can separate me from divine love.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield.—Psalm 18:2
THOUGHTS FOR THE SOUL
The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of love and of generosity and of goodness. It illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world's busy life and become more interested in people than in things.

A CUP OF FAITH
REVENGE AND RESTORATION

In the ancient Greek myth, the girl Arachne was a skillful weaver who bragged she wove even better than the goddess Athena. So when the enraged goddess challenged Arachne to a weaving contest, the two set to work. In her woven picture, Athena depicted Greek gods punishing arrogant mortals, and Arachne showed the gods’ cruelties to people. When she saw Arachne’s subject matter, Athena became so angry she struck the mortal girl, changing her form. From then on, Arachne would still weave—as a spider. Today, spiders are classified as arachnids, derived from the story of a vengeful goddess.

Of course, that’s just a myth, but such cruel vindictiveness was common in stories about pagan deities. What a contrast to how God forgave and restored the Jews even after they violated God’s laws.

“I will restore David’s fallen shelter—I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins—and will rebuild it as it used to be” (Amos 9:11).

God does the same today because it is God’s nature to do so—and because God’s loving heart always holds forgiveness for God’s children.

Thought for Today: When God restores us there can be no thought of revenge.
DECEMBER AFFIRMATIONS
WHAT ARE AFFIRMATIONS?
Affirmations are positive statements of Truth. By affirming Truth we are lifted out of false thinking into the consciousness of Spirit. Each time we pray positively and faithfully, we are calling forth the divine activity that is always within us.
We focus on these affirmations throughout the month for greater expression of our divine inner light. Giving thanks in advance, we claim each of the affirmations as true for ourselves and our loved ones, remaining open and receptive to the highest good for all.

HOW AFFIRMATIONS WORK:
"One who knows spiritual principles has a certain inner security given him by the understanding of God. Our affirmations are for the purpose of establishing in our consciousness a broad understanding of the principles on which all life and existence depend.
"In order to demonstrate spiritual principles, we must keep establishing ourselves in certain statements of the law. The more often you present to your mind a proposition that is logical and true, the stronger becomes that inner feeling of security to you.

Affirmation works because of the faculty which is most directly involved in affirmation-faith. Affirmation plays an important part in the process of divine ideas becoming facts and experiences in man's existence on earth.

The Month of December Affirmations:

Inner Peace
Divine peace is my path and my true nature.

Guidance
I follow the star and respond to the light of divine wisdom.

Healing
God is the flow of life within my body and being.

Prosperity
I rejoice in abundant possibilities.

World Peace
The Christ born in me is a gift to the world.
