SEPTEMBER 2026 | Your monthly connection to advocacy and action!

Helping Inform Voters

A message from our President

The primary may be behind us, but we are in the thick of our election season, and we continue to reach out to help voters better understand their ballots. In the past two months, this has included moderating multiple candidate forums and updating our Vote411.org website. None of this would have been possible without the diligence and expertise of our members and the many volunteer hours they put in.

This month, we will hold numerous amendment presentations, dissecting the proposed amendments to both the state constitution and the Volusia County charter. Do you know of an organization that would like our Speakers Bureau to bring this presentation to them? Contact Ann Smith for more information.

While these presentations are for members of the private groups that request them, we will also hold a Hot Topic: Know What’s On Your Ballot for our members and the public on September 17th at the New Smyrna Beach Library. Please see details below.

In addition to the Amendment Presentation in September, on October 6th, our highly esteemed Supervisor of Elections, Lisa Lewis, will speak about her main area of expertise – Election Security. Please stay tuned for updated information.

If you are a new or existing member, look out for Local Leaguers meetings as well as Hot Topics. And if you are a current member, please consider hosting a Meet and Greet and invite friends and neighbors who you think would like to join us. For more info, please reach out to Pam Novy.

Please check to make sure you are registered and have requested to vote by mail if desired. Here is the link to our Volusia County Supervisor of Elections.

On the November 3rd ballot, Florida voters will find three amendments to the Florida Constitution, and Volusia voters will also find five amendments to the Volusia County Charter. League speakers are trained on each of these amendments, and the presentation will include information on each of the three Florida constitutional amendments as well as the five Volusia County charter amendments.

The constitutional amendments cover significant tax policy, including the much-discussed Amendment 3 to increase the homestead exemption, which reduces local government property tax revenue. Volusia County Charter Amendments include changes to the formation of the county council and additional protections for conservation lands.

Presented information will include what a Yes vote and what a No vote means for each of these amendments. Speakers are League board members Saralee Morrissey and Pat Drago.
