Join NEWEA's Youth Education Committee on August 20 at the Narragansett Bay Commission in Providence, RI for a day of water education. Participate in a treatment plant tour; join in on a laboratory demonstration; learn about NEWEA’s available educational resources; and engage in a variety of hands-on workshops.

Registration is now open for our upcoming Small Communities Conference! This one-day specialty conference, taking place on September 11 at Save the Bay in Providence, RI, will address the challenges small communities are facing with new nitrogen and phosphorus removal requirements.

October 16-18, our Residuals Management Committee and Northeast Biosolids and Residuals Association are co-hosting "Sustainable Biosolids Management: A Sure Bet!”, a multi-day specialty conference taking place at Sheraton Springfield in Springfield, MA. We wish to express our sadness following the passing of Thomas Perry. Thomas, an involved NEWEA member and exhibitor and the owner of Multi Utilities Ventures, passed away on July 26, 2019 following a short illness.

A private celebration of life took place on July 30, 2019. We extend our condolences to his family and friends, including his wife Jean and children Erin and Megan.

WEF Recognizes Jeanette Brown with Distinguished Award

NEWEA would like to congratulate NEWEA member and former WEF President Jeanette Brown on her receipt of WEF's Emerson Distinguished Service Medal! This prestigious award honors Jeanette's commitment and career contributions to the water environment profession.

This award was established to commemorate WEF's first President, Charles Alvin Emerson, who served from 1928 until 1941 and was its first honorary member. This award recognizes a WEF member's contributions to promoting or improving industry standards and supporting WEF's mission through the profession.

Jeanette will be honored at the WEF Awards and Presidential Reception and Ceremony, taking place at the 2019 WEFTEC in Chicago in September. Congratulations again, Jeanette!
WEF Recognizes Meg Tabacsko with Public Communications & Outreach Program Award

Congratulations to NEWEA member and Council Director Meg Tabacsko on being selected for WEF's 2019 Public Communications & Outreach Program Individual Award!

This award recognizes achievements in using outreach, education, and/or communications programs to promote public awareness and understanding of issues affecting the water environment.

As the current Communications Council Director, Meg is heavily involved in working to update and relaunch NEWEA's Water for Life campaign, our initiative to spread awareness about the people, projects, and ideas that keep New England's water environment safe and accessible. Meg also currently serves as the Chair of the Registration Committee and is very involved in the Youth Education Committee.

Meg will also be honored at the WEF Awards and Presidential Reception and Ceremony at WEFTEC in Chicago in September. Congratulations again, Meg!
Second Annual Homebrewing Competition Names Best Beer

As part of NEWEA's recent Committee Member Appreciation Event, our Watershed Management Committee hosted its second annual Homebrewing Competition. After its inaugural year, which featured beers from two brewers, the competition grew to nine brewers in its second year.

Attendees of the Committee Member Appreciation Event were given an hour to sample any combination of the nine beers available and then vote for their favorite. A variety of tasty beers were available, including IPAs, a strawberry blond, pale ale, and porter. A full list of brewers and their beers can be found below.

Attendees ultimately voted James Callahan's New England IPA as the winner. He was awarded a beer stein with the Homebrewing logo. Congratulations to James and all of our brewers, and thanks to everyone who participated!
