Indigenous History Month

Indigenous History Month is observed each June to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Canada. Indigenous History Month provides an opportunity to honour Indigenous Peoples and deepen understanding of their important role in shaping Canada.

National Indigenous Peoples Day falls within Indigenous History Month on June 21st.

Filipino Heritage Month | Italian Heritage Month | Portuguese Heritage Month

June marks Filipino Heritage Month, Italian Heritage Month, and Portuguese Heritage Month. This month, communities celebrate these rich cultures through events, music, food, art, and learning opportunities. It’s a meaningful time to recognize the contributions of Filipino, Italian, and Portuguese communities, and celebrate the ethno-cultural groups that make up our community!

Nicole Blatta

Pavilion Support Supervisor

Hi, I’m Nicole and I am this year’s Pavilion Support Team Supervisor! This is my fourth year working for Folklorama as part of the Pavilion Support Team.

My primary responsibilities are communication with the Pavilion before and during the Festival and ensuring that all signage and ticketing equipment gets delivered and is in working order for the Pavilions. My favorite part about working for Folklorama is the connections I get to make with people from all different backgrounds across Winnipeg. Seeing all the hard work that goes into putting on a Festival like Folklorama makes a successful run so much more exciting and rewarding.

Lemuel Magaway

Seasonal Administrative Assistant

Lemuel Magaway is a student from the University of Manitoba majoring in Asian Studies. Through his studies, he has developed a strong appreciation for the histories, traditions, and cultural experiences that shape communities around the world. This summer, he's excited to join the Folklorama team as a Seasonal Administrative Assistant and contribute to an organization that celebrates diversity and promotes cultural education.

Keely Ross

Assistant, Group Tour Programs

My name is Keely, and it is my pleasure to be joining the Folklorama team this summer as the Group Tour Program Assistant!

I come from a background in tour operations, having spent the past couple of years working in Naples, Italy, coordinating tour experiences for incoming cruise passengers across various ports along the Amalfi Coast. I am fluent in English and Italian and have a passion for traveling and exploring new places, cultures, and cuisines. In my free time, I love food, music, and spending time with friends and family—I’m excited to be part of such a vibrant celebration of culture this summer!

Folklorama acknowledges that we create, connect, and celebrate on Treaty 1 territory. We honour the unceded lands and waters of the Anishinaabe (Ojibway), Ininew (Cree), and Dakota peoples, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We recognize and honour that our drinking water comes from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation on Treaty 3 Territory.

We are committed to building relationships and sharing knowledge, and cultural understanding of all communities. Understanding our diversity fosters pride and mutual respect.
