In the month since our last newsletter, we've had a lot going on at NEWEA. The Operations Challenge Training Day and Facility Tour took place on April 12 in West Warwick, RI, the Water for People Committee put on the second annual Deer Island Dash & KidFest, and the Amherst, MA water resource recovery facility and Abandoned Building Brewery hosted a Poo and Brew.
We have more events coming up in the next couple months, specifically our 2019 Spring Meeting. The preliminary program has been released and registration is now open! Scroll through this newsletter for information on the individual events we'll be hosting at this meeting, and register before May 17 to get the best rate.
In addition to the 2019 Spring Meeting, we're already getting ready for the 2020 Annual Conference & Exhibit. Our Awards Committee is accepting nominations of hardworking water professionals for NEWEA/WEF awards. We're also now accepting submissions of abstracts to be considered to present at the 2020 Conference. All submissions are due by June 14.
Check out the rest of the newsletter for more on committee news and upcoming events. Until next newsletter, have a great month and we hope to see you at some of our upcoming events.
As always, we invite you to contact Jordan Gosselin at jgosselin@newea.org with committee news and updates you would like to share in future editions.

Green Steps – Climate Resiliency in Water Resource Planning
Jake Cantor, Hazen and Sawyer
A changing climate presents challenges for utilities to provide clean drinking water, treat wastewater and mitigate stormwater impacts. Infrastructure damage resulting from extreme weather and flooding associated with climate change may be costly and can even displace communities, particularly in underserved areas that are more vulnerable to the devastating impacts of climate change. To better prepare for future climate conditions, community stakeholders, planners, and engineers should consider climate adaptivity among other design priorities.
