We're just two months away from 2020, and the end of year rush is starting to set in within NEWEA.
With 2020 approaching fast, we're really getting into Annual Conference & Exhibit planning. Limited exhibit booths are still available, our hotel room block is taking reservations until December 27, and sponsorship enrollment is open until December 13. The preliminary program is expected to be published in November. Registration will open once the prelim program is available, so be on the lookout for that.
In addition to the Annual Conference, we have been planning our end of the year fundraising events, namely our first annual
Online Holiday Auction
. This event features more than three dozen gift cards and vouchers to restaurants, hotel stays, and entertainment around New England. All proceeds will go towards supporting our continued and expanded educational, training, outreach, and advocacy programming.
We've also been busy with finalizing the details of our
merger with NEWIN
. In January 2020, NEWIN will merge to become the Innovation Council within NEWEA, strengthening our commitment to water innovation and building stronger connections within New England's water cluster.
Check out the rest of the newsletter for more on committee news and details on upcoming events. Until next newsletter, have a great month and we hope to see you at some of our upcoming events.
As always, we invite you to contact Jordan Gosselin at

NEWEA Attends Imagine a Day Without Water Event in York, ME
In honor of Imagine a Day Without Water, an annual awareness day that aims to educate Americans about the value and importance of clean water, York Sewer District, York Water District, and Maine Water Environment Association (MEWEA) hosted an educational event for local students.
The event featured four water education activities, including the trash or toilet game, seedling planting, a watershed model, and touch-a-truck. Over 200 local kindergarteners and first graders attended, touring the four water activity stations to learn about proper waste disposal, water maintenance equipment, and the importance of reliable clean water. After planting their seeds, they were brought to a sink that, when turned on, didn't dispense water to hydrate their new plant, highlighting how we often take for granted readily available clean water.
NEWEA attended this event, setting up their Youth Education booth to interact with the public and distribute water education materials, such as MWRA's Dwayne the Storm Drain coloring books.
This event, which was very well-attended, provides a great model for other utilities to host open houses and educational events, especially on national water awareness days such as Imagine a Day Without Water.
